Just took 2007 ADA to boost my confidence and it didn't disappoint 😀 I just took the science portion though, as I feel that I'm fairly ready for other sections.

Geez, I wish my real DAT would be as easy as this... Orgo was a pure joke.

Bio had two questions that kinda confused me though...

#15. Which chiefly stimulates action of the respiratory center?

A. Carbon dioxide in the blood
B. Relaxin
C. Lack of oxygen in the blood
D. Inflation of the alveolus
E. Vagus nerve

Answer is A. However, wouldn't C also stimulate action of the respiratory center?

# 28. Which statement concerning alleles is true for diploid organisms?

1. At most only two alleles occur at a given locus in an organisms genome.
2. Alleles occupy an identical locus in homologous chromosomes.
3. Alleles of a given gene usually occur on non-homologous chromosomes.
4. A single chromosome usually carries two alleles of each gene.

A. 4
B. 1 and 2
C. 3
D. 1, 2 and 4
E. 3 and 4

Answer is D. There has been a few threads in the past that discussed about this problem, and the main consensus was that it's badly worded. Does the answer include 4 because a single chromosome consists of a pair of maternal chromosome and paternal chromosome? I'm thinking that's the only way the answer makes sense.

I also made a STUPID mistake for one of the GC problems... 250ml of 0.4M is 0.4 x 0.25, but instead I did 0.4 x 25 :bang: Lol, I went over this problem twice and didn't even catch my mistake ughhhhhhhh

Well, only a few days to go... gotta get back to studying.. sigh

I only know the explanation (semi) for the first question. So our body has a receptor that can determine the pH in our blood and depending on our pH, demand to do more inspiration or expiration. Now the blood pH is measured based on concentration of carbon dioxide, because it can be converted to bicarbonate + H+ when mixed with water.

You say thumb down for 22 in bio?!!!! it is The Dental Admission Test not a little puzzle
22 is over the national average

so the primary stimulus for breathing is co2. small amounts of co2 increasing your ventilation rate when compared to a lack of o2 at much lower amount. try this: blow out all the air in ur lungs till u feel u have nothing left, then take a deep breath and hold it. compared it to normally taking a deep breath and hold it and u will find that in the first case you can hold ur breath for longer b/c there is a lower [co2 in ur body]. thats how i remember it, thru a real life example!

for the 2nd question, its a horribly worded question and option 4 is only true during metaphase or prophase: where the chromosome now has 2 sister chromatids. which makes it even worse is they used the word 'usually' so i would stick with 1 and 2.

I just did the same thing lol 26BIO, 21GC, 28OC. I lost a lot of confidence after my poor scores on the 2009 ada. It pisses me off how they make all these errors 2009 ada and don't even offer an answer sheet!!

What do you mean errors?
They don't have an answer sheet telling you what you did wrong?

Didn't say it was bad; it's actually pretty good gauge where you're standing.

There are only a few errors, which can be found through SDN.

It's worth it; free OAT exam is pretty good too.

But if they don't help you review your answers how can you learn from the test?

On #28 the answer key says it is B. Are you saying that its an error and it is really D or what..?

Wow, they must've updated their stuff! Because I downloaded mine from their website on Jul 1st... well, I guess I was right then. Only missed two questions in BIO... hopefully i'll do just as good on the real thing! 😀

Yeah lol I actually remembered this thread when I took it yesterday and I remembered your answer and got it wrong and was like wtf.. haha
