i got so screwed in bio....in topscore, it seems a lot of the problems are parasites-related or animal taxonomy which i totally don't know. For those of you who have already taken the DAT, do they have a lot of such questions on the real DAT?

Here is two of the sample questions...i've never seen these vocabularies in my intro-bio classes. Can anyone help?

Which of the following parasitic diseases or parasites of humans is not acquired by eating the parasite in food and water
A. Giarida
B. Taenia
C. Trichinosis
D. Ascaris
E. Schistosomiasis

Identify the following unknown organism's taxonomic group based on the following characterics: unicellular and heterotrophic; uses pseudopodia for movement; has well-developed organelles including contractile vacuoles; a single nucleus
A. Zoomastigophora
B. Rhizopoda
C. Apicomplexa
D. Ciliophora
E. Dinoflagellata

Thank you very much!!

Well let me answer the first question for you since this is a parasitology question and human parasitology happened to be my fav course.

Question 1. It cant be giardia due to cyst contaminated food or water,it cant be taenia due to eating infected pork, cant be trichinosis which involves eating raw or infected meat, cant be ascaris lumbricoides because infected eggs can be ingested through food, schistosome cercariae directly penetrate the skin moving through various tissues to the veins.
So the correct answer is E.

Question 2. you can eliminate ciliophora right off the bat since it moves using cilia and dinoflagellata since it lacks pseudopods. zoomastigophora uses flagella for movement which can be eliminated as well, Apicomplexa lacks any means of locomotion and i know rhizopoda has pseudopods and is unicellular so i think the answer is B

I havent taken the DAT yet, will be taking in august but if it has questions like these on the bio section its going to be a cakewalk

In response to question #2...
When I took that test I just thought about it logically. I also had no idea about specifics of unicellular organisms. I looked at the Psuedopodia and then referred to the choices: Dinoflagellata obviously uses flagella, ciliophora uses cilia, then I just assumed that PsuedoPODIA = RhizoPODA. I don't know if it will work on the real thing (I haven't taken it yet), but this worked for me on this question.
