Would it be too late to take the DAT in October?

I'm planning on taking mine early July and if I am not satisfied with the scores I want to retake ASAP...

I know that applications are looked at in terms of when they receive it..so I know that the later it is submitted with the scores, it wouldn't be beneficial.

So..do you think it would be very detrimental if it came down to taking DAT in Oct?

wow i just had this conversation with my dad during dinner! i'm in the same boat...i'm not happy with my practice scores and was planning on take it end of june, now mid-july probably but even that seems like it's sooo soon! I dont' want to delay any more though incase I have to retake.

so is it better to try and take it early or stall and take it later on (like end of july?) and then do my apps and so everything would be looked at by end of september prolly from what I hear that it takes 2 mo. to get it all processed :scared: ahhhh sounds awful again.

I think I just need to do beast of a job on the DAT cuz it looks like I"m leaning towards delaying everythign in hopes of scoring amazing to make up for delaying and all the other things working aganist me 😕

I'd just try to score well the first time and forget about a re-take. I waited until September last year due to scheduling conflicts and it definitely hurt me.

did you alreayd have your online app in before september though? when you said it hurt you do you mean because you didn't hear back for so long because others were in front of you in line?

i was under the impressions that having everything in by september is really good still. If you had bad results with it thoguh do you suggest a month eariler? is having everything in by end of august or mid august still bad too? i'm gonna be lucky if i get everythign done by then i think cuz my DAT score is holding me up -i'm waiting to get DATs done before i apply.

what do you think?

yes taking it once would be preferable.. But however, I'm having hte october test date in mind just in case. I have all my app stuff done and ready to submit.

But do you think taking the DAT in october would hurt overall?

If you do really well & get 20-21+, I think you'll still be at an advantage, even over the early takers. One thing I learned, is as long as you get it in, not too late in the fall, you still have a chance. My situation taught me this well. The first cycle, Fall 05' I submitted in Oct, & scores weren't that hot. Last year / cycle, I submitted in May, took the test got around an 18 AA, and the best I got was two waitlists from NYU and Columbia. If you check predents, you'll see a handful of people interviewed later in the cycle & were accepted. Even if they were waitlisted, most of the people with 21+ were among the first batch called off the waitlists. I haven't seen too many 18-19's get called off, so that's why I think its much better to have the highest score you can achieve. This is my third and final shot, so this attempt is a must for me, and a lot of pressure is hanging on my shoulders for this test. So I'd rather take it in Oct and give myself the best possible shot, rather than take it earlier, have people that apply in Nov with higher scores easily get in, and I wind up getting put to the side, waitlisted or worse, even rejected.
