I have taken DAT twice, both times I did really bad on two subjects QR and RC. I 'm taking it for the third time in August. My GPA is high. But about DAT I'm so scared, and sometimes I feel that there is no way that I can beat this.
I'm specially Scared of Those two subjects, but hearing that people say overall it is harder now, freaks me out. I look at too many books to read (huge kaplan books, DD and others ) and I think that man there is no way to finish this and beat the devil.
DAT has killed me twice and now I'm like a scared rabbit before his glorious presecnce. I'm so overwhelmed that I sleep and eat more, and sometimes I just give up. When my fear reaches it's highest point, the only thing I can do is forget about studing, so I go out. and then the study is interrupted. My studies go too slow. Please please tell me what to do. Is this like for everyone or just for me? How should I put my F... self together and get over with this. I 'll be under your debt foreverif you tell me how to kill the beast!

you say ur studies go too slow? let's compare who's study is slower.
I have been studying DAT for last 3 years and I still haven't taken the actual test not even once 😛.
If u think u r not ready, don't take it. 3rd test is gonna be ur last DAT in ur life time. Just take a time like me... If i were u, i would not take it as long as i am not ready for it(maximum would be until i become 27 year old....)

#rd time is not your last time, however, for more than 3 times you should show them some proof that you are an applicant for dental school. They made it this way, bc some poeple would take DAT every 3 months and then they would come up with "DAT Question books". SO if you are a true applicant they CANNOT tell you, you don't have a chance anymore So as long as you are trying to go forward, truthfully no one can close the door for you. So you might try to get the DAT once and overcome some fear. I appreciate your response and I wish you the best. Good luck

you can do it...do your best and turn in your application...I now people with DAT 23's that didn't get in and I know one who got in with a DAT of 15, yes 15...Don't be scared...after all this is not the only way to live...spending 4 yrs of your life studying hard and then deal with rude customers...dentistry is a good field if you are passionate about it and you like people...this field has the highest rate of suicide by the way...you are hearing this from a veteran...someone who has worked in industry for a long time...traveled around the world and came here as an immigrant, started with NOTHING...you can do it and dentistry is a good field...don't look at the glorious posts on this site,,,you'll lose hope...it's case by case basis...you are you and you are uniqe😀
take the test, turn in your ap and get it DONE!
as for stress, we're all in the same boat...it is what it is...look at this situationa as a turning point in your life...study, study, study

good luck to you and everyone who deserves to get into Dental schoo and not being pushed by their parents or what not

If I were you I would honestly just give up. You can only do so much. Just accept it and give up the dream. I know its sad but so true.

Thanks for your honest advices.
Another thing is that I came here to ask "How could I do better.". If I wanted to give up, I don't think that I would ask people tell me how to give up???
If your sister, brother or family member comes to you to get help, will you tell them go and give up?? Well you might, but that wasn't what I asked. But thanks for your discouragement!

My advice to you is you just need to know the time when to quit. That time for you is now.

P.S. You can't do better. I hope this helps.

Don't listen to them. I know it sounds cheesy, but Americans don't give up. If you want something badly, keep trying but remember to work harder by working smarter.

Only you know what you're caplable of! Don't listen to those people!!

Good luck with your studies!! Hang in there, it will pay off in the end!

That is so true. Somebody hasn't watched Rocky.

"His whole life was a million to one shot."

Hey ocean5, the best thing to do is forget your fear and just do as many sample questions as possible. I also had some problems with it, but I told myself that my weakness is going to be my strength. So the more sample questions you do, the better. I know you can do it, because many other people are doing it and I am comfident that noone has the exact DAT questions before they take a test. So, just do as many problems as you can. Eventually you will be so used to it that nothing will freak you out.
Good luck.

Guys, Thank you very mcuh for your advices. It really helps. I wanted to tell you that I take every single advice of yours by heart. I will try smarter, I'll do questions and I'll never give up. And you are right no one knows you better than yourself. And every one knows their capacity, and that is why I 'm here asking help from you guys. Becasue I know I can do it easily, but I don't know what I'm doing wrong. That is where your support means a lot.
And now to that friend who adviced me to give up. I didn't want to talk about this any more but since you posted another comment, I just would like to say a couple of things. But please understand that this is a friendly talk and no harsh feelings at all. I respect the fact that you express your real thought. I want to say that when you don't know people deep enough ( and in my case not at all), don't tell them that they should give up. You don't know me and you definitly don't know when is the right time for me to give up and neither you know when anyone else should do so. You say you are in dental school yourself, how come instead of giving helpful advices (which is what I asked in the first place), you discourage people. More over, Do you really believe that one should give up after a couple of less fortunate events or you might call it even failure (which I don't believe it is)?? Are you a person who would give up after a couple of low grades or Fs? Will you leave your dental school if you get a couple of low grades? If you won't, don't tell others to do that. If you do again don't tell others to do that, as everyone knows in their heart when is the right time to do so.

dont give up. the guy who wrote the earlier comment is probably a frkkin dum@ss pre-dent himself. Be wary of all the responses you get on here. Take everything you read with a grain of salt. A lot of people especially pre dents would not have your best interests in mind and therefore will not want to give you sound advice as you are possible competition. To do well on the test, you really have to figure out what works for you. Take as much time as you feel you need to prepare and use as many resources as you can. good luck.

whoever come to this website and tell people to give up their dream shouldn't become a doctor. He will probably tell his/her patients "you will die soon and you can't do anything about it. It's sad but it's true so just give up and die~!! oh and don't forget to donate your teeth, that's the best u can do."

Anyway if it's true that u can take more than 3 times, then go ahead and take it. 4th, 5th, 6th...10th...etc.
people go to university and study for 3~4 years before they take DAT. You can also refresh everything and start all over from the beginning and spend another 3 ~ 4 years. Who cares about how long it takes as long as you can achieve your dream and that's all it matters.

Believe me I know people who have taken the DAT more than twice and at the end they got in. Dental schools like to see you trying harder and harder, so don't give up. Good Luck.

Thank you all. I can't say how helpful it has been just talking to people in this site. I should have done it long time ago. It really helps. Thank you all.

Perseverance is the key to success my friend!!!

Hi Ocean...just wanted to say....dont give up. Nobody in this world can stop your dream but you...so dont lose hope hearing others words...hold strong to your ambition and keep truckin! I just took my dat and there really weren't that many word problems as people say...I would say def. brush up on probability if ur not too good with it. Also, more than going through review books like kaplan, just try to get your hands on as many practice tests as possible b/c for math the hardest part is timing! For reading, I would suggest switching methods according to the passage. Skim and "take notes" for the ones that are dense and full of confusing info. But for some passages, topics are basically separated visibly into paragraphs and for those just go straight to the questions...that worked for me...hope it helps u as well. Stay positive and believe in yourself...u really can do anything u put ur mind to! Take Care. 😀
