I am planning on taking the DAT in ~1 week and was wondering: If I don't perform as well as I want, will it reflect on my application negatively if I take it again in 5-6 months? (Around the beginning of summer)

I took the Kaplan CD test to see where I was at and got 19-22's in everything (19 in science...). I haven't done any studying beyond the day before I spent on the PAT section and I'm afraid of relying on this one instance in deciding what to do.

As of now I'm gonna take another practice test from a different company in a few days. If I get similar scores I'll go ahead and take the real thing. If I get significant (negative) differences I'll call in and cancel my test.

I thought I would just ask for any sort of opinion/humor, thanks!

I've always been told that dental schools look at the highest scores even if you retake it and bomb out. I took it twice and did significantly better the 2nd time. (20/21/22) versus (19/19/21). At my recent dental school interview, they had both DAT score sheets. I could help but think that if my scores were unchanged or worse the second time, it wouldn't be pretty. But they also get percentile scores. For example 1st and 2nd time I got 21 on QR but the 2nd time my percentile was 92% vs 87% the 1st time. So more than just raw score is looked at.

Hmm thank you that makes sense. I think I will opt for a later test date since more studying usually correlates to better scores 😛. That and I have no need to take them so early so I might as well 🙂. Thnx again!
