DAT - no orgo II

I'm a rising senior & haven't taken the DAT yet. I'd like to apply this summer and have began my test prep.

Only thing is ... I haven't take Orgo II yet. I did well in Orgo I however & was planning on self-teaching myself Orgo II for the DAT.

I'm thinking of taking the DAT in July (applying in June without scores). I'll be taking 2 summer courses from May to June so I'm giving myself more than 2 months to study.

Any advice on learning the Orgo II material from those who have taken the DAT without it? I've heard Chads videos move quickly for OC.

I personally would not recommend taking the DAT without organic chemistry 2, but there are some people who do that and do well. Usually the people who do that are really ambitious and push themselves hard to teach themselves orgo 2 on their own - I don't think I could've done it. But there are success stories out there, and you know yourself best, so you have to evaluate the situation and determine if you can teach yourself a semester worth of organic chemistry on your own. There are a lot of materials online, like YouTube, that can help clear up any concept. You have all the tools at your disposal to make this happen, it's just a challenging road.

Hey!

I didn't take Organic 2 before the DAT (and probably won't take it). Ari is right, most people don't recommend it.

However, it did end up being quite doable with a strong background and interest in Organic 1. If you enjoyed and understood Organic 1, I felt like it was easy(ish) to apply those fundamentals to the more complicated reactions on the DAT.

With those summer classes, will you have enough time to study? Sounds pretty jam packed.

All in all it probably wasn't the best idea, but it IS doable with hard work and luck

It is doable if you are a highly motivated student but will be a much more challenging path. I highly recommend you take the 2007 and 2009 ADA released DAT exams prior to taking the DAT. Use those scores as a rough guide to what you will score on the actual DAT. If you are scoring below 18 on the Orgo I would consider postponing the DAT to a later date.
