Hi guys,

I am confused as to what extend I should go deep in Organic chem. "Organic chemistry odyssey" seems too difficult to me. should I know all the reactions mentioned there? specially in "amine" section, I feel stupid!!

Buy the DAT destroyer that should get you in the right direction.

there is a chance that any reaction that is in the OChem odyssey manual will appear on the DAT. some reactions are more likely than others, but there will be a few amine reactions you can expect to see on test day. the extent to which you become familiar with all of the reactions is really dependent on what kind of a score you want in the OChem section. between the DAT Destroyer and the OChem odyssey book you will see 99.9% of all possible reactions in the OChem section.

I watched chad's video and went over corresponding odyssey section got 26 on OC. i didnt even look at oc section on destroyer. Some of the odyssey questions may seem too hard, i didnt completey ignore them, but i focused more on questions that chad's went over. Dont get discourged you are not the only one who felt stupid while going over odyssey. One good thing about odyssey is that since there are so many questions you unintentionally memorize most of the reactions. by the way, you should post this on DAT section. wish you the best of luck!

I dont know where you are in your studies but after doing chads ochem vids I only miss about 5-10 questions per chapter in the odyssey. On the real DAT that would be alot of questions to miss but I feel that the odyssey has some really tough ones in there. Practice problems are nice - but if you're looking for some great review chad is the man. I took really detailed notes on his lectures then made flash cards (I learn best this way) and memorized those + look over my notes.

I actually wish I had the book while I was going through ochem class. It would have provided more sample problems. For those of you taking Ochem in the fall it may not be a bad investment. I would also suggest that you get the Ochem ACS review for O chem calss. For the dat I stopped doing it because I didn't feel like it was prepairing me well enough... I thought it was too narrow in focus.
