So I'm thinking that after the fall semester and taking organic chem 1 take the DAT during winter break and if unhappy about scores retake in June? Because I've seen posts of people saying you don't need organic 2 before because the Kaplan book prepares you enough. has anyone done this?

Why are you in such a rush?

It depends on school to school about how much your orgo covers. Yes like ~60% of it is orgo I, but there is orgo II on the dat like all the reactions.
I personally would wait to take the dat after orgo II. because in orgo II you will get a little review of orgo I again which means you see the same material more than once, which means when you are preparing for dat it would be more effective and on the real dat you would feel more comfortable and prepared.

1 vote from me to take it after orgo II

agreed.

I heard through the forums you can do without orgo ii but in my school, orgo i was used to teach the "language" of organic chem and orgo ii was were you learn almost all the reactions. It is possible to buy books and learn the reactions yourself but that is pretty hard to do especially when that is only one section of the DAT.

There are some that have done that, but unless you are planning for a last minute application for this cycle, why not wait until after Orgo II?
