DAT: Plants?

So I originally studied from the 2007-2008 blue Kaplan book and they don't have anything on plants. They also don't have anything in the 2010 edition. With this said, the kaplan books have a guarantee that their books cover everything you need to know on the DAT...

I looked on the ADA website and their guideline on what is in their biology section and there is also nothing about plants.

However, in the white kaplan book which is only given to people who paid $1400 for the kaplan course, there are several pages about plants.

Also I read in old posts that plants are on the DAT.

Who should I believe?

Plants are definitely on the DAT...I probably had 2 or 3 questions on them. Cliffs AP bio book has a whole chapter on them, but its really detailed...then again its better to be ready for anything!

Kaplan is lieing if it says it covers everything on DAT but leaves out plants. DAT does include plants.

The blue book def has plants. Its not listed under table of contents as "plants", but its there. Its split into functional systems. Like circulation will have info about animal circ, annelid circ, plant circ. Then it'll have reprodiction, under it will be human rep, bacteria rep, plant rep. I have the 2008 edition and i don't think they'd take it our for 07, put it in for 08, and take it out for 10... Kaplan doesnt guarnetee @#$@, but higher scores than diag. That's an impossible claim. Don't bank on it if they do. The bb is awesome, but start with Cliffs AP. Then supplement with bb to see what you could condense your studies to.

The ADA mentions Plants under the classification section and thus you are responsible for them. There will be several plant questions and yes, they are detailed.

I think I maybe had 3-4 plant questions, like Victoria said as well. From what I remember, they weren't particularly difficult, I think one was testing your knowledge about the difference between xylem and phloem, something like that - another one asked about a plant growth hormone. Bleh, I do hate Botany!

I had two problems on plants. But they were probably a little more detailed than what vicviper said above. But, the plant chapter in Cliff was enough for what I had.

For example, the Kaplan blue book does NOT cover asexual reproduction in plants with Natural Vegetative Propagation an Artificial Vegetative Propagation but this is included in the white book.

I was just wondering if we needed to know it in as much detail as in the white book because I have already completed memorizing the blue book...(and I don't want to memorize the additional information if its not needed)

Definitely NOT KAPLAN. They like to give people the impression that they cover everything that might show up on the DAT, and that's simply not true.
So, my advice to you is to definitely read up on plants.

yea i saw this as well. can anyone else add as to whether the KBB plant info is sufficient or the KWB info is needed? or just use the cliffs plants chapter instead?

i have the KWB...still not detailed enough. I'm basically forced to read my bio book from school because I cant understand the info from the lack of detail in the KWB, thank God I'm just supplementing my school material with kaplan, or else I'd feel like I was seriously under prepared from just using kaplan's bio material
