*Undergrad. Stats: Cumulative GPA 3.825 (loser .👎); phi beta kappa, magna cum laude, phi eta sigma
DAT: AA (17) (I know I totally sucked. 🙁 I was relatively unfamiliar with the DATs back then and I didn't take it too seriously. But I reckon my scores are totally ghetto and I really want to work on scoring better.)
You're Cum gpa is great! don't say you're a loser there! On the other hand, what's your sci gpa? I beleive ADCOMS will look at the science gpa with greater weight. Your DAT needs to be at least a 19, I think. But with the increase difficulty and competition, you might want to shoot for a 20 on the DAT.
It is tough to get work experience in dentistry to show your ability with it. I didn't get any, but ended up okay. What I did was 100+ hrs shadowing of several dentist and specialist. That will at least give schools a hint that you are interested and understand what is required. I also coordinated and went on a dental service project in Tijuana, Mexico. This will look great on your application! You'll get hands-on experience and a lot of shadowing hours.
I think you have a good cum gpa to get interviews. you'll need a science gpa greater than a 3.0 (hopefully greater than a 3.5) and higher DAT score.
I would suggest start shadowing a dentist (start by asking your own personal dentist, most likely he/she will let you). And what was your major and your sci GPA? And yeah, 17 is not enough these days, aim for 19+.
Congrats on your choice to join the United States Confederation of Dental professionals! Your GPA is very Sexy and I'm sure if you study a bit and get that up to atleast a 19/20 you'll be set. Best of luck
i do not think it is all that bad. you seem to have excellent GPA, not 3.14 as i expected 🙂 jk. and yes, dental school is definitely "a walk to remember", so study hard!
(i probably need to eat more instead of drinking juice and wasting my time on gmail)
