Hey everyone

I just thought about compiling a list of books and study aids for the DAT. Please add any book you feel has helped you. I'll include every resource I'm using.

1. Kaplan- big blue book DAT
2. Topscore
3. Kaplan GRE math
4. Kaplan GRE biology
5. Princeton Revies Flowers and Silver MCAT book
6. Exam Krackers 1001 problems Gen Chem
7. Exam Krachers 1001 problems Organic Chem -HIGHLY RECOMMEND for practice
8. Exam Krackers verbal 1001 passages
9. Barrons DAT book (for PAT review; best PAT problems anywhere)

NOTE: The Exam Krackers book have to purchased on-line from the company itself which is located in New York. They are a small firm but their books are top notch. I highly recommend them. Little pricy though! I believe the website is simply www.examkrackers.com or just google it.

If any veterans like Gavin, Tinkerbell or Yah-E can think of any more resources or books that helped them, that would be great.

I have been told that some of the AP books are good like AP chemistry and AP biology

You recommend the Barron's book for PAT review. I hear there are lots of errors in this book. Is this true? Do you think it does a good job preparing you for the PAT?

Barrons does have mistakes but it's PAT section is far more difficult than the versions in the KAPLAN book.

Mcataz:

You seemed to cover just about everything.....I only used:

1) Kaplan book
2) Kaplan Lesson book (from the Kaplan DAT course)
3) Kaplan CD (from the Kaplan DAT course)
4) Topscore CD
5) Barron DAT book

I also took advantage of 8 full length exams for practice. The more practice you get, the better:

Kaplan CD - 1 full length DAT exam
Barron book - 1 full length DAT exam
Kaplan diagnostic exam (paper form from Kaplan course)
Kaplan midterm exam (paper form from Kaplan course)
Kaplan final exam (paper form from Kaplan course)
Topscore CD - 3 full length DAT exams

Good luck on your studies....I actually took my DAT in AZ and I studied in the Midwestern University library the whole entire time. My favorite study place in the library is upstairs with those tables by the study rooms.😀

so you got paper form exam from kaplan? I am also taking kaplan course now, but they wanna the paper form back? how did you get yours? thanks🙂

Yeah good question Yah-E? How did you get the full length exams from Kaplan if you didn't sign up for the course? And I love the Midwestern library. I study in the cubicles downstairs. The DO's like that second floor area and they keep talking over there. The propular crowd chats up there. I like to sit with the nerds downstairs. 🙂

I think YahE took the Kaplan Course and the DAT in '99. That's prob why he has that material.

YahE, did you ever go to the Kaplan library and use their study aids the second time around? I know if you take their class, you have access to their stuff until you get the score you want.

Indeed, I took the Kaplan course back in 1999. It is during that time I "borrowed" the 3 Kaplan exams (Diagnostic, Midterm, and Final) out of the Kaplan center.

For my second DAT in January 2001, I never step a foot into any Kaplan centers since I had all the materials in possession. My privilege to use Kaplan Center resources expire on a specific date which states clearly on myKaplan membership card. I would've had to pay a small fee if I wanted to go back in to use their DAT resources. Those three Kaplan exams are really useful. I "borrowed" mine to a fellow SDNer, smile_doctor, who frequently lurks around here. I know they are circulating around the country so ask around.

I would add Princeton books and three practice tests 592, 593, and 594.

Also, very old real DAT tests. They are great.

I'm gonna let everyone in on a secret:

Get Columbia Review's:

High Yield Biology
High Yield Chemistry
High Yield Organic Chemistry

They are written by Bresnick, D.M.D/M.D He used to write for the MCAT and DAT. Each book has 500 problems at the end that are very similar to the DAT.

They are relatively cheap, like 12 bucks per book, but man were those worth it.

Where did u get these from?

Try acethedat.com for PAT. It's much harder than the real thing, which makes it unique as most other test preps are easier than the real thing.

I second the choices of the OP for the most part

Schaum's Biology and Schaum's Organic outlines are excellent addendums to the Kaplan Blue Book. Both flesh out the concepts outlined in Kaplan very well without being excessively long winded.

Has anyone had any experience with this:
http://www.dat-test.com/

Sounds fishy... 🙄

Oh, my goodness, this thing is still around. It is literally, 120 pages, double space, large font, of BIOLOGY terms. It's like your text book glossary! 👎 👎 👎

Great list and discussion. There is such a repeat of information with "newbees" to the list asking the same ol questions. There is a "search" feature that can be utalized for the threads that can be used to answer many common questions.
