I recently decided that I want to try to go to dental school. I graduated with a bachelor's in Chemistry and a minor in Biology back in 2007. I have not seen any Chemistry since then! What would you suggest as the best preparation materials for someone who's been out of school for a while? Thanks

The best thing to do is to get back to school. It has been 5 year so there will be MANY schools that won't accept your pre-req classes (not sure if you even finish all of them since you didn't do the dental route back then). Contact your school and talk to their pre-dental advisor. The DAT is not your biggest concern right now, there're many things you need to get done (letter of recommendations, volunteer hours, shadowing, etc.) and most of these things require you to go back to school.

For the record, I was in a pre-professional program when I was in undergrad, and I am positive that I have completed all of the pre-requisite classes, plus some. The DAT 'is' my biggest concern right now. I have a Master's degree, so I would appreciate it if you could answer my question about best preparation materials. thanks.

Read the breakdowns of successful test takers as they contain all the information you need. A very quick synopsis:

For GC and OC: Chad's videos followed by DAT Destroyer. Rinse and repeat.

For BIO: Cliffs AP or Barrons AP, DAT Destroyer, DAT Qvault, Kaplan Blue Book

For PAT: Crack DAT PAT

For RC: If english is your first language I wouldn't worry about it. Just use practice tests for prep. Find a method that works for you and stick to it.

For QR: Math Destroyer. You might benefit from taking a pre-calc course if you are rusty.

khanacademy.org will save you lots of headache.

You can go through chem and organic chem sections on the site.
Try it out, it's all free 😀
