DAT QUESTIONS!!!

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
nope. you only get the online calculator for the math section. the best materials are dat destroyer, dat bootcamp, and chads videos.

I want to add that the DAT Destroyer might be overkill a bit for gen chem. Chads is the BEST SOURCE for the chemistries. The Destroyer is great for QR though.

From what I've seen on breakdowns, DAT destroyer seems to be good for getting those like 1 or 2 curve balls that come up every so often and really solidifying concepts you're already pretty decent at. Most people who have scored very well have used it, but there are exceptions (like glimmer1991 and probably others). I've been doing it these past few days and some times it makes me feel really weak at the chems even though I did well on chad's quizzes and know his notes/lectures. However, I think destroyer helps me get a deeper understanding of the concepts chad teaches by offering harder problems and introducing a few new topics. (I must say a question like "what element are meteors and asteroids mostly composed of" is likely not going to be on the test though 😛)

When I took my DAT, I had nothing that showed up that looked anything as difficult as destroyer for the chemistries. Maybe I lucked out and avoided those 1-2 oddball questions. I am a chem tutor and I didn't even understand half of the concepts in destroyer lol.

However, I would recommend destroyer also for biology. I thought biology was the hardest science section. It really is an area that asks random questions unfortunately.

I also like the Sterling 1800 question. Unfortunately some of the questions are almost repeated but it is good for the calculation problems where you need to practice doing the math w/o a calculator.

I got zero GC curveballs and some weird OC questions on my test, but nothing that Chad's didn't cover. I remember during the test that there was something specific Chad went over related to the question that I couldn't figure out. Frustrated that I didn't remember it. But the point is... use Chad's and get a 20+. There will always be those 3 or 4 questions that are weird... you may or may not know them. Destroyer covers a lot. If you're willing to go through it, by all means, go for it. I don't suggest using Destroyer from the start because you need a strong foundation in order to actually understand the book. If you don't, you'll just be memorizing questions, really. But the OC roadmaps are really great!

Are you given a calculator for the General Chemistry section? Also, what are the best study materials to use?
Hi ilovesoccer17,

There so many different versions of the DAT and the GC section can be very tricky indeed. Some versions may present a lot of calculations and others versions not. If you want to avoid a retake it is best to prepare to Destroy it the first time. No one has a crystal ball or knows exactly what you will be presented. It is best to go in over prepared than under. In our classroom setting we go over EVERY question in the Destroyer and our students score very high.

The Destroyer is very challenging but so is the DAT. It only take a few wrong questions in a section to bring your scores down quickly. IMO every little bit helps.

Wishing you the very best in your studies and on the DAT

Nancy
