I am a Texas (URM) applicant only applying to the 3 Texas schools. I took my DAT 8/8 received an 18AA, 19TS, and 18PAT (with a 3.44 GPA, 3.4 sGPA). Because the avg for last years accepted students were both 19 AA and PAT (in addition to a lot of applicants this year are getting 20+), I feel that I need to retake the DAT. I submitted my application 7/16 and its still processing, though I expect it will be finished next week. The earliest I could retake would be November. Is there a point in retaking my test this year?

I would say just sit tight and see what happens. I don't think retaking at this point will help you out much. If you don't make it this cycle, then retake the test in the spring or early summer. Good luck.

If you think a retake would significantly boost your scores, why not give it a try?

You're a black female...what do you think your chances are?

I'm pretty sure I could increase my score by November, I just feel like that's late to take a retake because they'll already have these scores and I might get an invite/rejection by that time.

But thank you guys for the advice. I guess I'll wait and see once my application gets mailed to the schools before I sign up, but I can still review the material.

The same as anyone else. Even for a black female it is going to be difficult to get accepted when only applying to 3 schools.

I may have incorrectly assumed that you would be taking classes this next year. If you are not taking classes, then it would probably be a good idea to retake as soon as possible, since the information you just learned will still be fairly fresh. If you are taking classes though, I would still recommend hold off on the test, securing good grades during the school year, and then dominate the test in the spring/early summer.

I still have 2 semesters of my undergrad left. I meant that I'd keep studying for my test just in case I do decide to retake and I'll be ready asap.

And I know 3 schools are iffy. I just know I would not be ready to move out of state and didn't want to waste money on a school that I know I would not attend next year. Just hoping for the best.

IMO you will be ok for Texas schools and you will hear from them. If I were you I would add Howard and Mehary in case.

If you are applying to only Texas schools, which are super in-state favoring, and like lmaozedong said if you are an African American female, which is the URM of the URM, there's no way you wouldn't get in.

Schools want to brag that they have variety.

Don't worry and sit tight 🙂

Also, retake in November would be a little too late.. and it's not like your score is horrendous. It is average. You should be fine.
