DAT Retake

I have a quick question about retaking the DAT. Will dental schools only accept the most recent test scores? I took the DAT last summer and scored 19AA/20TS/19PAT. If I retake and do worse, will schools only accept the newer scores?

They'll see both scores for sure. I'm just not sure what score they'll use to evaluate your application. It varies from school to school.

Some say "only most recent score is considered", others say highest is considered. One of them says "When more than one DAT score is reported: All scores are evaluated based on their merit." If you purchase the adea guide to dental shcool, it'll tell you for each school.

they will have a copy of all the DAT scores you have taken but they will only take into consideration the DAT with the highest scores.

Another question...if you take the DAT twice and a school takes your best score, does that mean the best on each separate section, or the best total?

I'm thinking along the lines of the SATs. You take it more than once and many schools will take the best score from each section (reading, math, writing) to come up with a composite score.

Most of the schools will evaluate your application based on your most recent score, regardless how you performed. Very very few will look at your better score. Dental schools argue that if you score lower on the second try that means that you actually "lost" knowledge in 3-4 months.

No, you cannot combine scores like you did in SAT.
