On the first dat ... i did fine, but RC held me back on the application process.
my first day score is on the site below(old thread)
http://forums.studentdoctor.net/showthread.php?referrerid=81776&t=411142

today i got
PAT: 18...63.7%
QR: 17...63.2%
RC: 18...38.1%😳
BIO: 17...48.2%😱
GC: 22...88.7%😍
OC: 19...71.7%😕
TS: 19...73.6%🙄
AA: 19...73.5%

notes:
PAT: figure 2 in cube counting didnt apear right... too many "extra" lines almost looked see through. not just 3D

QR: i was blanked out but all in all there were a few tricky curve balls

RC: Spinal cord essay was there but it didnt seem too hard.

BIO: wtf... i shoulda studied more in detail

GC: this section took really long time... some of them i just guessed and moved on.

OC: i thought this would have been in the 20's .. i dont know what went wrong

TS: im not happy...
AA: im satisfyed b/c i retook the dat to raise my RC score. i really hate the laminated paper/ crappy marker combo.

i have a gpa of 3.1 in science and total both.
do you think i have a chance at any of the texas schools?

I am assuming that you are a texas resident. Your GPA is on the low side, although the DAT score isn't bad. I would say you are borderline. If a retake isn't possible, make sure you apply early!

yea im a tx resident .. but ill goto any US dental school under any circumstances. im just sick of undergrad

i also thought i could get 20s on Organic, but it didn't turn out right.

i tutor Chemistry... but hardly anybody comes in for ochem, but tons of ppl come in for gen chem, so i kind of have gen chem practice. All though DAT destroyer is great for chemistry.. I would read through Kapal blue book then practice on DAT destroyer(it has great explanations).

I did not study/practice any math.

For RC... I think it was luck. i got a subject topic that i covered last semester. On the last test(june) i had a crazy passage something about medical/research ethics... that might have really killed me in reading.

Bio - now this was a challange... i really dont know what to study, i read the stuff i was "weak" on in Campbell bio book. BUT i didnt get around to covering a couple of chapters in the end... and i had a few questions from that type of subject area... i would say bio is the hardest section.

If you have any extra money and want to work on PAT i would use Acheiver since both times its been pretty acurate. for example the first time i took the DAT i did a Achiever PAT Practice test and got a 20... on the real dat the next day i also got a 20. This time I did a achiever PAT test like 2 days before the dat and got an 18... and on the real dat i got an 18.

and if you really have a alot of money left and want to practice more... buy topscore. I didnt like the way topscore explained the solutions. Destroyer explains the answers really well and Achiever explains it well enouph. They both explain why the other answers choices are wrong on most of the questions.

if you need more details let me know.

Chga you didn't use any outline for biology like AP Cliff's or Schaums. If you used only campbell how did you study? I have been overwhelm by reading it, I feel it is so long, so it would take me forever to read and remeber details. I probably don't know how to approach it.

Campbell and schuams contain about the same amount of information. if you exclude all the pictures from campbell. I wouldnt study campbell.
the first time i took dat i read like half of the schuams book and got an 18. this time i put more effort in and read campbell (didnt read the last 200 pages) and i got a 17. So ... read schuams biology book.

I would agree boarder line for Texas schools. Especially SA and Houston b/c of the formula used to rank applicants. If you have a ton of upper level science with As you will have a better shot at Baylor. You may put some thought into a post-bac or masters as a backup plan.

Good Luck!

Could you post a link to this formula you speak of? I know San Antonio has it on their site, but what about Houston?

The "applicant pool management model formula" is the math formula you are referring to, same as SA. Both UT schools use the same model.
