So I know some school are very clear in that they will only accept 3 dat scores.

My question is if I took the DAT twice last year and once this year. Does that mean that that I have reached my limit? Or can I still take it again?

If I have reached my limit is there a possibility for me to take it a fourth time (second time this year)?

I can't actually check on the prometric website because I don't have the money right now to apply for a test again.

Thank you for your answers and if I posted in the wrong section then I apologize.

The schools don't limit the number of times you take the DAT, but the ADA does (3). You have to apply to take it again. Unfortunately, I can't comment on how difficult it might or not be to get approved for another attempt.

The schools will probably be able to see how many times you took the DAT. Four attempts might raise a red flag with admittance committees.

I think that 3 attempts is a lifetime limit, enforced by the ADA. Not individual schools themselves.

There is no limit on retaking DAT. After your 3rd time, you need to send them the reason why you have to retake again such as rejection from dental school and you want to improve your scores.

As previously stated, the limit is set by the ADEA. To take it more than 3 times, there is an appeal process. I was at an info session where the dean of admissions from Alabama (Dr.Filler) was speaking and said something along the lines of it's not hard to get the permission to take it a fourth time but (in his opinion) that raises a red flag and he would just prefer someone that was able to get it right sooner.

I think you should take it as seriously as possible. Pretend like its a hard limit (even though it's not). Do not have the "I'll just take it and see how I do" mentality.

There are a lot of good practice tests out there to gauge your standing. Keep studying until you ate able to get your practice scores up to where you want them. If you are getting the same scores as before on your practice tests, why would you expect to do better on the real retake?
