How long is the DAT score valid for?
If I take the DAT in August 2016, and apply to dental schools in the summer of 2017, will my DAT score still be valid?

I believe your scores are valid for 2 years at most schools

If I were to take my DAT in August 2016 as well but push off my applications till summer 2018 would they still be valid? I want to take post-bacc classes after graduating and am considering waiting till after I complete those to apply to dental school.

Most schools are 2 years but it varies per school. By then there might be 1 or 2 schools that may not accept the date but most still will.

Thank you! I'm still a little confused. For example UCSF states "Scores are only valid for two years from the opening date of the AADSAS application" does that mean if I do what I am planning will my scores be expired since they would have just hit the 2 year mark or are they valid throughhh the 2nd year and expire when they hit 3 years old?

Most schools seem to have a 3 year lifespan with the exception of ones like Louisville, UCSF and others where it is only two years. As for your question about the expiration, it's 2 years exactly. Aug 1 2016 would expire Aug 1 2018 for schools with 2 year requirement.

Does that mean if I applied before August 2018 my scores would still be considered? I remember reading for one school, can't remember which, that the score had to be valid up until the date of entry into the program or something like that.

Exactly, its specific to each school. Some schools its 2/3 years prior to matriculation, others to a particular date, others to when it opens etc etc. You kind of have to track down specific info. It can be pretty crushing though to find out that your score is invalid for a school you really want to apply at by a matter of weeks, so take the test and apply in a timely fashion.
