I'm registering for the DAT right now and I was wondering:

1) After taking the test, could I go back and add more schools to send my report to? Or do I have to choose them all right now?

2) If I decide to retake it, should I even bother sending the scores the first time? Don't they send all your previous scores with your retaken ones ....?

1) You can add more. I did.
2) Don't send them if you are not pleased. Some schools (like UCSF) will go with the first set they receive (even if your second set is better).

I plan on applying for the 2011 cycle and taking the DAT in July, which will be a little late but it will be the best I can do.

Can I choose to NOT send my DAT scores to the school by not entering them on the DAT registration, then send them immediately after if I am pleased with my score? How much time am I losing if I do it this way?

1- You cannot add schools once you have taken the test. You can, however, add schools after you have registered but before actually taking it. If they allowed that, a lot more people would be taking advantage of that.
2- You can't not send your scores once you've taken the test.

My advice is, prepare really really really well without thinking about how to avoid sending your scores if they are bad. Because they will get sent to the schools you specified.
I also recommend taking the Kaplan course. I did the online one and it worked wonders for me. My score increased on average 5 points (I scored a 26 in OCHEM!)

Hold up, this thread just confused me. I took the DAT over this past winter break. I didn't have them sent to schools because I wasn't sure if I was going to apply this cycle or next. Now I know that I will be applying in June, but you're saying I can't send those scores? I guess it's not a big deal since I was planning on retaking anyways, but it seems weird that you're not allowed to add schools. I also thought I heard that when you have your scores sent, they send all scores from every time you've taken it, and they prevent people from hiding low scores that way.

You CAN add scores after you've taken the test. ( I did it...) You can also not send them to any school as well i believe, but you get 5 schools included in the cost of the test WHEN YOU SIGN UP FOR IT, so if you choose to send scores to all the schools after you've taken it, you will lose out on "free" 100-125 dollars worth school submissions. you will then have to spend more unnecessary money to send scores to your first 5 schools at a later date in addition to any schools beyond the includes 5.

Also, they do send ALL of your test scores if you have taken the exam more than once, even though you tell them to send your most recent. I know because they asked me in my interview how i improved upon my scores...

SweetUFTooth, i think u just confused everyone.

Yes, you can send request to send scores to school after you take the test. All scores will be included and not just the most recent one correct?

Quick question: do you need to send DAT scores to individual schools? I haven't applied through AASDAS before, and I thought you just send your scores to AADSAS and it'll distribute scores to individual schools... now I'm just confused.

I went through the same confusion last year....the 5 schools you selected for free will probably keep your scores for the upcoming cycle (call them in June to verify). You don't need to resend your scores to these schools. I would send your scores to the other schools in early June in the event that they don't take early scores. My experience has been that they do keep early scores but I would send them in June just in case they don't keep them.

For the students who are unfamiliar with the process. The ADA creates a 'score report' for each student who takes the DAT. If you just take the DAT once, your 'score report' consists of the those scores only. If you take the DAT twice, your 'score report' will show both attempts. Regardless of how far apart your attempts are, the most recent scores will be accompanied by your past scores on the 'score report' the ADA sends to schools. So if you applied this cycle and didn't get in; retook the DAT and applied to different schools next cycle; the score report they receive will show your past scores too.

This may be obvious to some, but I wanted to try and clear the water

When you register to take the DAT it will ask you what schools you wish to send your scores to. As adizzle said, you get 5 free choices. You will have to pay for any other additive schools. It's a better idea to stop at the 5 free ones, and just request score reports be sent out after you finish the test. Additional score reports after you finish the DAT are 25$ per school. Adding schools during the registration process is a little more, right? I forget. Also, if you don't do so well, you will have wasted money sending the scores to additional schools.

from what i remember the dude from the hangover has it summed up perfectly from what i remember.... and for that other guy i took my dat in july and got in on dec1 so its not too late just try to get all your stuff to aadsas as soon as possible cause they take eons to process it all... and dont forget about the supplemental materials!!!!
