I just finished taking my DAT so I thought I'd post my scores and my opinion of the test. I used Kaplan and Barrons to study, and averaged between 17/18/18 (lowest) and 19/19/22 on my best one. I found Kaplans practice tests to be very helpful, but Barrons contained so many mistakes that it took more time to figure out what the right answers were (many times they were not even a choice) than it did to take the test. I would not recommend Barrons to anyone. Kaplan did a good job reviewing most topics, though its biology section lacked depth. The Kaplan PAT, in my opinion, was more difficult in its Pattern Folding section and FAR easier than the real DAT in both angle ranking and hole punching. The other PAT sections were comparable to the difficulty of the real DAT, but slightly easier. Kaplan's reading section was far more difficult than any of the passages or questions i got on my DAT. The three passages were: intercellular communication, herbal medicine, and magnesium/cardiac health. The math section on the DAT closely resembled Kaplans practice problems, but was a little easier. Overall, I'd say to study Kaplan's blue book, use your textbooks to supplement the bio section, and practice practice practice for the PAT. I studied for two weeks using only the Kaplan and Barrons book and did quite well.

My scores:
PAT: 24 QR: 18 RC:21 Bio:22 GC:22 OC:20 TS: 21 AA: 21

Great Job! How did your PAT go up so much? I studied Barron's PAT and feel comfortable with that, but I bought Ace the DAT and well let's say I don't score as well. Do you think Barron's is somewhat representative except for the angles? Because, Barrons does have some close angles on their practice test; however, not as close as Ace the DAT. Lastly, I have heard of some crazy cube shapes. You see anyhting like that. Thanks,

Dude those are some awesome scores. I hope I can pull those numbers when I take my test in 2 weeks. Can you look at my post about my scores on my practice tests and give me some insights.

DMD Dreaming: I have no idea how my PAT improved so much, I fully expected it to drop. I didnt score all that well on my first couple of tests, even with the mega point boost i got from getting all those easy angles right on Barrons/Kaplan. I do think Barrons PAT, except for the angles, was pretty good. I did see some weird cube shapes in the cube counting section, but nothing that different from the practice tests. The only new thing they threw in that i can remember is on cube shape had a hole down the middle of it, so that made things interesting. Good luck with your test and let me know if you have any more questions.

Thanks, I have seen a cube on Ace the DAT that I was not sure of. And I have to have those easy points. But, way to go. A 24 is sick! Now, just relax!
