I looked over the ADA website and the ADEA website, below is what I found. If I am reapplying for the next cycle, took the DAT last year, how would I go about having them put in for the next cycle? Below it says that they are directly imported, but does that mean that I have to pay $25 (each school) to release them or do I not pay anything? Or is that $25 (each school) if the school says that they want me to send them a copy directly?
Thank you in advance!
Additional Score Reports

Designate where to send an additional score report on the electronic form below or download and complete the PDF document below. You can send additional reports to: dental schools, other institutions, or send one to yourself. There is a $25 fee for each report.

DAT Scores Imported Directly into ADEA AADSAS Application
Starting with the 2011 ADEA AADSAS application, applicants no longer self-report DAT scores in the application. ADEA AADSAS will obtain your official DAT scores directly from the American Dental Association’s Testing Services Center and will import them directly into your application. If you take the DAT after your ADEA AADSAS application has been sent to your designated dental schools, an updated application, reflecting your DAT scores will be forwarded to schools just as soon as the scores are received.

Great question. I was actually wondering about this in case I have to reapply.

I know if you took the DAT lately, then your $320 test fee already covers every school you want to send it to.

But for people who took it last year, how do we go about sending our scores to the schools? Is it the same deal as before where we pay $25 or whatever for each school?

I know that last year I didn't pay th 25$ fee to any schools and the scores got there. I think you should be fine. The schools should notify you if they don't get your scores.

I applied last June, but my DAT was taken 9 months prior (October '09).

When I called aadsas about this very thing, they said if I didn't select the schools (when I first signed up for DAT), then I have to go back and do it now, or they won't receive my scores..... So I went back, and painfully selected the 18 schools I applied to.

I could have waited for AADSAS to send out my application and see if the schools received the DAT score, but I didn't wanna postpone my application further.

i think that if you send it to aadsas or aadsas might take care of it directly, then all the schools you applied to should receive your scores.

well... you can't send aadsas your scores... they electronically pull them up from adea using your dentpin + birth date

Thanks everyone! 😍

Ok, so I took the DAT in November (2010), selected a handful of schools, did not get in. So come June (2011) I will reapply, AADSAS will automatically get the scores from last year and disburse them to the schools I selected last year.
There are apprx. 10 new schools that I would like to add to my list in June, so I need to get on the ADA website, pay them 10 X $25 to add those additional 10 schools? Correct?

hold off on that... a previous poster said they didn't do that and AADSAS still got their scores out to schools.

Maybe this whole paying ADEA thing is B.S??

K, will do. I hope so, I've lost track of how many k of $s I've spent on this dental dream; it needs to become a reality soon! :xf:

Going to do everything right this year: apply broadly, apply early (June as opposed to October and December as in last two cycles)

Just need to put finishing touches on my new personal statement, because my old one was full of fluff and garbage according to my brother. Need to find someone to look it over though

I've sent too much money to that ADEA cash cow then........😡

guys im throughly confused on this: I am bout to register for the DAT on the ADA DAT Application website it tells me to pick schools I want to send the scores to. However, is this where I pay $25 per school or should I select all the schools (even where I wont apply; because i dont know yet ALL the schools where I will apply) Im confused about the process and how it relates to:

Just select however many free schools you can select currently. Take a guess of the schools you will apply to. I wouldn't pay the additional 25$ fees because I know I didn't and all of my schools got my scores.

makgyver, so basically from what your saying I can select ALL the schools and that would be covered by the $320 test fee? I dont pay more for each school I select.

No no. I would just select however many free options you have. My scores were sent to all the schools I applied to later when I clicked the boxes on the AADSAS application regardless of whether I checked them on the DAT.

No I'm saying about the DAT Application and Test Fee, the $320. Based on the FAQ (http://www.ada.org/sections/educationAndCareers/pdfs/dat_examinee_guide.pdf) it says that it does not matter how many schools I pick, all of them are covered under the $320 fee. I only pay $25 per school if I pick it at a later point in time. (I guess during the DAT or elsewhere.) However, I selected ALL schools on the DAT Application so therefore I assume this covers all the schools.

That's the impression I got with the new DAT fee of $320. Technically you can select all the schools and you shouldn't be charged more or anything since its covered in the initial fee. That's why they jacked up the DAT price now.

Thanks awesome thats good man, I read the FAQ and figured that out. How much was the fee previously?

I feel so ripped off 🙁

$205 or $190 or something around that? I don't quite remember, that's the number I got from googling before they changed it.

But you only got to send it to 4 schools for free. The rest you had to pay $25 for. It wasn't unusual for people to spend another $300-$400 just sending their scores to schools. It's alot better deal now with the $325 all you can eat special.

I didn't pay the additional fee for any other schools and my scores go to all the schools I applied to via AADSAS. 😉

Oh gotcha. Yeah, just go ahead and take a rough idea and check all of the schools you might want. Worst case is that you send a score to a school you won't go to and it doesn't really matter.

I applied for Fall 11 with scores I got in 2008 and my scores were sent to them all via AADSAS with no fees required. I did have to pay the money to send them to Tennessee... grrrr

So just to double check, I took the DATs this January and checked 10 schools, but if there is now two more schools I want to apply to, I still need to pay 50 dollars to release my scores to those schools?

Correct. The wording at the top of the screen when you selected the schools you wanted while registering for the DAT reads as follows:

"If the schools you requested participate in a standardized application service, e.g., the Associated American Dental Schools Application Service (AADSAS) or the Texas Medical and Dental Schools Application Service (TMDSAS), the scores will be available to the schools directly and through the application service. The fee for Dental schools not selected at the time of application is $25 per report."

not according to post #3 above

I think they might have changed it. It seems like last year might have been a change-over year where they were getting a different system. It's worth calling AADSAS though, or just waiting and calling the schools and see if they got the scores. That would probably be a lot more advantageous than asking random people on here.

Okay, so there are definitely some changes to this year's application portal/system. I would really appreciate it if I could get some advice from those who have started their applications already.

So I am a re-applicant. Should I select to do that whole data transfer thing? Or will it bite me in the butt (i.e. I will have to pay ADEA to release my scores)? In previous posts some applicant's scores automatically released. So, I said to myself, alright I won't have to pay to have scores released. Then I read the directions for this year, which I copied below from the AADSAS guidelines, CRAP! Does that mean that they have caught on to their mistake (i.e. failing to collect every penny that they can from the applicants) OR does it mean that you will get caught if you do the data transfer thing?
My two main concerns are: downsides to data transfer and having to shell out hundreds more for scores from last cycle.

Q: What information will NOT be carried over?
A: Letters of evaluation, DAT scores, payments, and your personal statement will NOT be carried over and must be resubmitted.

Do you guys think I am considered a reapplicant if i paid for my primary app last cycle but never took my DATs or wrote my checks to dental schools for application processing?

I was able to import my data from last yr, I'm confused as to whether I'm a reapplicant or not

Ok, guys, now i am really confused. Since ADEA FAQ states that DAT scores will not be imported and they must be resubmitted, it means that we have to go on ADA website and pay for each school so the scores would be sent to AADSAS? Really confused....But instructions say this : For the 2012 ADEA AADSAS application, applicants no longer self-report DAT scores in the application. ADEA AADSAS will obtain your official DAT scores directly from the American Dental Association’s Testing Services Center and will import them directly into your application. ADEA AADSAS does this by using your DENTPIN. If you take the DAT after your ADEA AADSAS application has been sent to your designated dental schools, an updated application, reflecting your DAT scores will be forwarded to schools just as soon as the scores are received.

No words about actually paying. I would appreciate a reply.

so does that mean I should select ALL schools, and whatever school i apply to AADSAS will have the test score. any other schools that in DAT application (not in my AADSAS) will also have my score, but that does not matter and i will not be charged for any other fees.

I took the DAT august of 2010, selected 5 free schools and even paid additionally for a few other schools. I am reapplying this year and the scores just show up on your app. I called aadsas and they were no help (the girl was so disinterested in helping, told me to call Ada)... I called Ada and they confirmed that if you applied a previous year, aadsas already has your scores to be uploaded. The lady from Ada also said that the people from aadsas DO NOT know what they are talking about.

So, if you are reapplying, DON'T pay any more money! As for new applicants, I would just select the free schools and they should be uploaded to aadsas no problem.

I am taking my dat soon and as i was informed from one of the AADSAS people that if you select at least one of the AADSAS participating schools then all the other participating schools would get your scores if you apply to them. Therefore, i only selected 2 schools out the 8 i applied to. Please let me if i am wrong so I can go back and add all the schools that i want my scores to be sent to before taking the dat in 15 days and pay $25 each.

thaks guys
