This was my 2nd time (not fun):
1st (July) AA: 17 2nd (Oct) AA: 18
TS: 17 TS: 19
Org.Chem: 16 Org.Chem: 19
Reg.Chem: 19 Reg.Chem: 19
BIO: 16 BIO: 18
QR: 16 (word problems) QR: 17
RC: 19 RC: 19
PAT: 13 PAT: 16
I did come up in almost every area & scores were pretty consistent (except for my nemesis,PAT) My scores are not stellar by SDN standards, but I hope are good enough to get me 1 tiny acceptance cause I NEVER want to do this again!! QR killed my AA;ironic, cause I am a math/bio major.(honest, guys;I can do math)
QR: 2nd time used acethedat & topscore(scores 19-24) 1 trig, 1 probabilty on test. 2nd test different.
RC: (Topscore:20)much harder than 1st:Warning:Could NOT answer by reading questions only.Quest. like,"tone of author was...."
Org.Chem: same as 1st;(Topscore 20.) Had orgo II between test 1 & 2- made difference for me.Really thought I'd done better-used Kaplan
Reg Chem: (Topscore:18) same as 1st test-used Kaplan.
Bio: Like 1st:Used Kaplan,Cambpell,AP Bio.Questions on little bit of everything-wording makes test hard..Being really familiar w/material makes difference.(know details,not just concepts)(Topscore 17)
PAT:at least I made 15 cutoff this time.Don't think I could ever do much better. DrTacoElf's block counting helped-thanks.
Biggest advice:stay focused/don't allow panic.I let RC panic me & think it killed my QR-I heard someone breathing loud, took out my earplugs and found it was me!(lol)I was so embarrassed, I never put earplugs back in, so I would know if I did it again. I prepared this time thru school & midterms, hope the effort was enough & TS will be counted as high as AA. my stats: GPA 3.3, science 3.2, lots of shadow time, research, good references. only got 1 interview til now;am hoping new scores will get me a few more; my mail box is lonely. (Thanks again to all who answered my questions in pre-test panic mode)Don't you wish we had all been born a few years earlier and weren't going thru this admissions cycle? I see bodies piling up on the road side already. Good luck to all.

"bodies on the side of the road...." So crazy 😛 Congratulations on going up! 😛 Same thing happened to me...true story...Had one interview from a school b/c my DAT marks were a bit pitiful I guess, and then took it again...two more interviews came like bam bam bam. Needless to say, I was thrilled. Betcha' it'll happen for you too ~ Congratualations again, good stuff good stuff

holden and beachluvr,

I need some advice from you guys. what did you guys do to study for the DAT the second time around. please share your story

abina81

I went from a 17 to a 19 by taking kaplan class for the DAT the second time around. The first time I took it, I was kind of lost in what to study and concentrate on. Then taking the Kaplan class allowed me to be more focused on what I needed to take, plus I met other students with valuable tips, such as studying the chem and organic from Kaplan and using Schaums outlines and kaplan biology to study Bio. Not to mention SDN was very helpfull.

I think a combination of the above and being more relaxed help me out a lot.

My scores are almost identical to yours!! Except a couple of sections you scored one point higher than me and I scored one point higher in one of the sci sections. You did much better the second time around, congratulations!! I applied to 10 schools, withdrew from 3 and have 5 interviews. I'm still waiting to hear from 2 schools, but I just turned in my secondaries to them around a couple of weeks ago... so I'm thinking it's a matter of time before I hear from at least one of these 2 schools. I'm sure with these new scores, you should get more interviews. Make sure you fax your new scores and call the schools directly letting them know to update your file and perhaps reconsider you(jf they have denied you already). Good luck!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Thanks for encouraging words. I did pick up 3 more interviews so far (alhough one not until March??) so I should not complain.Don't know how to get my file re-looked out elsewhere though.I have called (most schools won't talk now),emailed (got no reply),faxed and wrote letters. I have been told "file in review" at at least 4 schools, but it was 'in review' before I retook boards.I fear I was put in a pile that will never be looked at again. Where are you interviewing? Good luck.

Abina- If you are taking for the 2nd time, just learn from past mistakes & concentrate most on your weakest spots.AT least the fear of the unknown is gone. You know better how to pace yourself & what you're capable of. I got a cheap, big face, digital watch this time to keep better track of time & it helped me.I did not want to retake @ location I took it the 1st time-too noisy, dark,& no headphones or ear plugs given. So I found different location near school & checked it out 1st.I resched.right w/in 90 days so I would not forget alot of what I had already studied.Wore comfortable sweats both times.I had less study time 2nd time since it wasn't summer & midterms in school so I mostly studied wkends only but you do remember from 1st time more than you think.I used fewer study stuff this time.I was more directed & streamlined my study.I made a list of all I wanted to cover & charted what I should cover each wkend to get it done in time.I never did as much as I thought-but it helped to have a game plan anyway. For chem:I studied every reaction from Kaplan.I took Orgo II between DAT I & DAT II so that was fresh in my mind for Math: I studied trig & word problems on my own & used acethedat and topscore for samples-also bought book on word problems made easy in Barrons and a website from Drexel Math Prof.for math word problems-spec. age, probablility. For reading I did nothing-although prob should have practiced a couple more tests, Bio: I reviewed the most cause I did not do good in bio first time-this time,I used Campbells & AP review only I concentrated on evol.,ecol.,cell stuff - all stuff SDN talks abt.& answered every practice bio question I could find on topscore.PAT,I practiced angles on acethedat and topscore & took advice on SDN for cube counting, etc.I don't think I would have done better no matter what -just me-but at least my score went up. Good luck.

Don't sweat, your stats are good enough to get in as long as you apply early, have some research, volunteering, and shadowing. In other words, a good round-looking resume.
I got 15 for QR and still got into my dream dental school. Don't give up 👍
Also, don’t get disappointed by those people with 24-26 DAT, remember, they don’t represent the majority of the applicant pool.

PM if you have any more questions.
