Just took DAT today:

Academic Average 22 98.7
Perceptual Ability 17 72
Quantitative Reasoning 28 100
Reading comprehension 19 67.3
Biology 17 73
General Chemistry 27 100
Organic Chemistry 17 64.5
Total Science 19 86.8

I am disappointed in my biology and org chemistry. I had done better in the practice test.

Should I retake DAT?

-- PS: I have masters in Computer Science. GPA is 3.6.

mtaliban, what I don't understand is how you got a 27 in general chemistry, but only a 17 in organic chemistry. It seems to me if you're good at one you'd be good at the other. Lot of similar concepts on the orgo section: stoich, pH, electronegativity, etc.

If I were an adcom I'd be confused.

Those scores are great! I wouldn't re-take it! I would do a dance of happiness! As long as your GPA is good too.... you will get in most places!

I wouldn't retake it if I were you. As far as organic chem and general chem being similar, they really are alot different, so I'm not surprised in your variability of scores. I on the other hand am acing the organic and struggling with the gen chem...perhaps your math background bettered you in gen chem.

I don't think its confusing. As a comp sci major, he has mad math skillz which is apparent by how his QR score. Gen chem is much more math based where as o-chem has like zero math and is more about understanding the relationships and interactions between organic molecules.

That is exactly what you said. It is not confusing at all. Besides the fact that I have not yet taken any Organic Chemistry course yet. I have organic chemistry 101 this semester and planning to take the second one in the summer.

As a computer science major, I might be the best person to talk to hehe. I had amazingly similar score to you. Look, my AA QR GC are also 22, 28 and 27. However, my OC is 21, which is much lower than general chemistry. I believe it's due to the fact that OC is not as "Scientific" as GC lol. I also had a QR of 19, but only 52 percentile, so you see, we computer science people are truely science nerds. Overall you did good, but if I were you I would retake biology and organic chemistry, don't worry about PAT because most schools don't care about it anyways. Don't forget that you have to show them you are good at biology and chemistry because you are applying to DENTAL SCHOOL. If you get over 20s on Bio and Ochem, you TS would look much better. Of course this is the case for next year application. If you are applying this year, don't even worry about it. You will have good chance(prob 70% of the schools you apply to) of getting interviews. I hope everyone notices his major, computer science, I was told that even if you have great stats, but you are not good at biology or chemistry, your chances are slimmer than bio students.

If he/she applies early then I believe he/she has a very good shot, regardless of the major or some of those scores.

They are good scores. If you are truly worried, call up the offic of admissions at the schools you are interested in attending and ask if they recommend retaking the DAT.

i don't see anything wrong with being a comp sci major.. those scores are excellent.. your science scores are better than some people who are science majors! Don't sweat it! I would be SHOCKED beyond belief if you did not make it in somewhere! My advice: apply to a lot of schools.. you will probably end up having your pick!
