DAT scores

Are you applying as an instate resident. If not you might have troubles with that score. I think that you are borderline with that score. Otherwise if you are applying to a school in your state you should call and talk to the person at the admissions office or even make a visit and they will personaly let you know what they think.

im applying in state and to some private schools

dude I got a 22 in PAT and I don't think that it got me in at any more schools than if I got what you got. Not one interviewer even commented on PAT. I really don't think its that important. You'll get in at an in-state school for sure with that if your GPA is cool.

Your gpa is GREAT! Since the majority of your DAT scores are pretty good you are in great shape for many schools. But if you feel you can put in a few months and raise your scores, especially the PAT, you will be in much better shape.

Remember the better your DAT scores, the higher the chance of you gettting in to highly competitive schools. So if you want to go to Harvard, UCLA, UCSF, UOP, UPenn, Columbia (you get the point) you should take the DAT again and aim for above 20 on each section.

If you want to go to other less competitive schools (but also great schools!) then you stand a good chance with the scores and gpa you have now.

It's all up to you! Figure out where you want to go and check their incoming student's stats.

Good luck!

sorry - dupliate post.

i second flossy and howui...however, the DAT score is not bad, and it would not reduce your chances at 90% of the schools. like howui said, UCLA, UOP, and Columbia are beyond your reach. but UCSF would not have a probelm with that score, and neither would penn....also, look up indiana, umich, maryland, NYU and USC....you can def. get in....in fact, good connections can even get you into columbia. 2 schools you'd never get into though are UCLA and Harvard....but hey, those are just 2 schools. good luck

Im currently a junior in college and recently took the DAT. Im applying for the 2007 application cycle this May. My overall gpa is 3.83 and my sci gpa is 3.78.
My scores were OC-18, GC-19, Bio-20, RC-21, QR-18, PA-16, TS-19, AA-19.
My question is do i stand a chance with that PA score or should i retake the test and try to improve my score?

Considering that early for the '07 cycle, you should definitely try pull up your PA score to 18 or 19 while maintaining rest of others' if not any better from there. Also, look into getting DAT Achiever for your PAT especially. Many SDNers has'd good luck using this program...

i called the ADA and i cant reregister to take the DAT until april, plus it takes about 2 months to get an appointment at the prometric center. if i retake in june or july will i be able to forward my new scores to the dental schools even after my application is in?

i submitted my app in july, took the DAT toward the end of august, and my DAT scores beat my app to the dental schools. you can submit your application before you take the DAT. id say to submit your app in june and take the DAT around that time.

i already have one set of DAT scores that are borderline. what happens if i have interviews before i retake the DAT?

Your GPA makes you an extremely good applicant. I don't think your DAT will affect you much, unless you want to get into one of those high DAT places like UCLA or Harvard. With that GPA you will get into D-school. The DAT maybe only limits your choices.

As long as you didn't go to a community college to get that gpa you will be fine. Depending on what state you are in you will probably get in to most state schools. You will not start to get interviews until august or september at the earliest anyway. So, if you decide to take the dat again (personally, i don't think you need to if you apply to alot of schools) you will have plenty of time, considering your aadsas will not be due until mid may.

i dont go to CC, and my in state schools are Temple and Pitt

when you submit your app, it takes 4-6 weeks for AADSAS to process it before it is sent to the schools. so, if you take the DAT at about the time you submit it, your DAT scores will be sent out within 2 weeks and beat your application to the schools.

thanks for the all the good advice. ive decided to retake the DAT, rather than leave anything to chance.

is it really true, that instate students have a better chance? why is that?

i think thats because your tax money funds the state schools.

it really depends on what state you live in though.

I think that is a wise decision. My stats are similar to yours, and I have not received any acceptances for this cycle. I had interviews, but no acceptances. So, I think I will retake the DAT and apply next year. Good Luck 🙂

where did you apply and interview? and what were your stats if you dont mind sharing?
