ok, i took the DAT like a month and a half ago. Wasn't too happy with scores, but I don't want to have to apply again next year and take the DAT again next year. Here they are:

AA: 18
TS: 18
Bio: 18
Gchem:18
Ochem:18
RC: 19
QR: 18
PA: 27

My GPA is a 3.62 and my Science GPA is like a 3.47. I got an interview to one school already but I'm not feeling very confident. Does anybody know of any schools that put more emphasis on PAT scores? Any thoughts?

those are some solid scores there. Imo, 18 + are competitive scores so i think you should be fine. It looks like you are a well rounded student in all areas being tested. Btw, your pa score is sick. What did you do to study?

Consider applying to UOP, which places lots of emphasis on the PAT score.

For the pat I just went over practice test after practice test. I probably should have taken some of the time used studying for the pat and instead studied other areas, but it is over and hopefully I won't have to correct that mistake. The hardest part for me at first was the third view section with the solid and dotted lines. After going over those hundreds of times I just started to finally see the figures. So practice practice practice. I didn't really practice the angle rankings that much though, which is where i probably missed one or two. I don't think you can really study for those.

congrats, good scores, I think your good to go, just apply to many schools, if you can afford it,
why do u say you have to take the dat again next year, even if you apply next year you can still use these scores, am i correct? can't u still use your old scores up to 3 yrs? did they change something?

One Smile-

How do you know u of p placing alot of emphasis on the pat??

Thanks,

d

From past research on SDN and advice from friends around. I would call the school directly with that incredible PAT score and see what they have to say.

Yes you can use scores from the past few years but I am just afraid that my academic scores are too low, therefore I would want to retake it. From looking at the adea booklet from past averages of DAT scores of students accepted the AA average is usually if not always higher than the PAT averages. This would lead me to believe that schools do not place as much of an emphasis on the pat as they do on the rest of the test.

Hey,

I got similar scores and am in the same boat. I was looking for some answers too.

PAT:30
RC:18
QR:18
CHem:21
oChem:18
BIO:19
AA:19
TS:19

I heard that orthodontics programs require high PAT scores. Is that true???

I had a friend with a 16 OC, 18-19-20's on everything else and then a 26 PA and he got into Penn. This was a few years ago, but the scores the two inquiring individuals have posted here seem solid enough. I personally would (and am) focus(ing) more on preparing for the interview (however one does that) than worrying about taking the DAT again.
