I am signing up to take the DAT for the first time, hoping to apply this cycle (May/June for Texas schools) -- and have a question regarding the scoring.

I know that you receive your DAT scores right after finishing the exam. However, will the scores also be immediately available to dental schools?

Or will I need to wait for a month or so while they verify my scores, etc.?

Thank you!

You can send all your information (minus the DAT) once the application process starts. However a school will not review your application until you send your DAT scores. The benefit though of sending early w/o DAT scores is that you are still at the front of the line. It usually takes about 4 weeks until schools receive your DAT scores.

That being said, you can still submit your AADSAS and then take the DAT a week later and your DAT will catch up to your application and you'll still be in the first mailing group.

Since the DAT offers a different test each time which vary slightly in difficulty, how does the automatic scoring/percentile work?

I thought there was a new system where you don't have to send your DAT scores to the schools you want? I heard that in AADSAS you can just check the boxes where you want your scores to go and the DAT scores will be sent there immediately and you don't have to pay for that? Can someone correct me?

That's what I thought too. Initially when you sign up for the DAT after you get your DENTPIN, you have to select schools where you want your scores to go to. I heard that if you select it at that point, then its free of charge, but then when you apply to schools that you did not select initially, you then have to pay I believe $25 for each school. Please correct me if I'm wrong on this guys. I'd like to know also if this is how it works. Thanks!
