Hey everyone!
I'm fairly new as a pre-dental student. I was wondering if you guys can give me advice as to which study materials are the best to use. I just took the DAT and got AA:18 and PAT:18 which is not horrible but still disappointing considering I feel I knew the Kaplan DAT 2008-2009 edition inside and out (I also had the Barrons book as a study tool). I also bought the topscore practice test. I have to be honest, those books didn't help very much; on the actual test the biology and organic chemistry questions were very detailed and the information covered in the books were very broad. For example, I noticed on the actual and practice exams there were many questions about the heart and that was hardly covered in the kaplan/barrons book. Also the math sections in those books are horrible! On the actual test half of the questions were word problems and there are no word problems in those books. For the people who did really well can you let me know what waterials to use? Thanks!🙂

This question has been beat to death which is prolly why no 1 answered but Ill help u out

Bio: Cliffs AP Bio book..(its the AP Bio book and not the DAT prep)
memorize it cover to cover
DAT destroyer is great for bio questions..its ochem and chem are a little more intense than i think is necessary but alot of people like it. i think its worth it just for the bio

Chem: Kaplans book for chem is good..supplement it with your textbook from college and the ACS review book for genchem

Ochem: Again, kaplans text is good for this, supplemented with your textbook for the reactions is great. learn all the basic reactions reactant and products, you dont need mechanisms

PAT: Crack the DAT PAT

Reading and math..tossup..i didnt study for either of those

Topscore is good, check out acheiver also for full length tests. and kaplans subject tests are good also

If you havent taken anatomy 1 and 2 you might be lacking in the systems..the hearts big..but all systems are covered in Cliffs AP Bio

For QR section SAT and GRE materials are good. If you are not satisfied with them you can look at engineering fundamental exam math section (study the sections only covered for qr section, do not waste ur time with calculus, dfq, and other higher level math). I think that you can make a lot of difference with high qr, since many applicants suffer in this section. For reading, I have no idea (I did not study either). Be lucky and have nice passages in the test.

Bio: campbell's bio text, cliff's ap bio***, destroyer (random, but a nice test of your knowledge)

GChem: kaplan bb, destroyer again but its a little tough and discouraging, so make sure you have a solid foundation before you use it

Orgo: i used class notes, old exams, and destroyer*** (best for orgo without a doubt, the roadmaps are priceless)

PAT: Crack Dat PAT obviously

Math: honestly, i used my little sisters high school text and tests and did fairly well with an 18

QR: didn't study, found it to be fairly simple as long as you are a fast reader. i recommend reading passage rather than search and destroy which takes up way too much time.

TIMING IS EVERYTHING!!! topscore is a nice assay of how long each section should take you.

Good luck with studying!

hey, sources that would help I recommend Destroyer, Topscore and CDP. Its very important to get as much practice problems as you can. Try reading through Kaplan or your textbooks for a strong idea for the sciences. Then when youve got that done, start doing practice problems. Destroyer is a great book and the explanations are amazing. Topscore and CDP are great as well for practice and timing. Hope this helps, good luck!
