Hello people!! I am currently trying to get everything completed for my application process and will hopefully be taking the DAT by the end of July.

I am trying to attain information regarding the most appropriate method of studying for the DAT and achieving a grade of 20+..

Please inform me of methods that you believe seem to work well, for i am in need of all the help i can get.

How should i study and organize my time wisely?

Thanks..

There are countless posts on this subject. You can use the "search this forum" option and you'll find plenty of information to answer this question. You should also look into the DAT forum.

Ive starting studying as well and so far:
PAT: crack DAT PAT, Barrons
BIO: Cliffs, Bio Text, and Schaums, destroyer
Chem: Trivedi general chem DVD - www.t2i2edu.com, destroyer
Ochem: class notes, destroyer
Quantitative: destroyer
I also took the kaplan course and have the blue book and the lesson book

Is the DAT destroyer a good option??

Ive just started using it for quantitative and its nice to see problems similar to the real DAT questions and then have a detailed solution. I think its extremely over priced but then again I think the $70+ I sent to each school I applied is also a bit extreme. Its just one more study aid that might help. I took the DAT once before and only took the Kaplan course and read the Kaplan blue book ... lets just say it didnt go as well as I had hoped hence the retake with any and everything I can get my hand on.

one of my friends times himself everyday for how long he studies for the DAT. i've started doing that and it really helps you keep on track, stay motivated and feel accomplished when you go to bed!

thanks for all the help, but i would also like to hear from someone who has already taken the DAT and has achieved a grade of 20+...

i guess i could purchase the destroyer merely to attain a good grade the first time rather than paying to retake the DAT numerous times...

i appreciate all the help, thanks..

Hey Dent2Be I took the test and scored 20+ (AA20 and TS22-reading and math weren't my strong suite)
Anyways I used Kaplan Blue book, Destroyer and Achiever. I though the combination of these three materials prepared me the best for this test. I would start with Kaplan Blue Book its a good start just to show you what subjects are on the test however you def need to go more in depth in bio. I used wikipedia and the internet to help fortify my bio section.
Then I moved on to destroyer and achiever. I thought the destroyer mimic the DAT the best. I honestly thought that this study aid was worth its cost. Achiever was good for timing and pacing purposed. I also logged in a lot of study time and made it a priority. Just keep up with the work and make your self a schedule its the last big step you need to do before you get into dental school.

I took the test once.Did not do well but honestly the destroyer's math is not anything close to the real one.I mean it was way easy compare to real one.It makes you overconfidence.Still, very good preparation tool.

Thanks for the information. I think your path sounds like a good idea. I'm currently studying biology out of my college text book, but because of all the classes i have this semester i am studying for the DAT on fridays and saturdays...left the school work for sundays. But i want to finish studying from my text books first then go through Kaplan and the others you suggested. What do you think? i'm taking the dat mid july...does it sound like ill get everyhting completed in time?

thanks...

so would it be a good idea to purchase it??

thanks..

Yes for me I thought it was a valid expense I mean it helped me and I scored well on the DAT. With that said even with all the DAT materials in the world it is up to YOU to do well!!!! Just keep up the studying don't get frustrated and keep going at it. A lot of information is out on the web which is reliable so I would tap into that resource, especially for biology!
I think I bought every DAT material book that was out there and thats because I wasn't as self confident in science abilities and I just wanted to see what every type of question was. Looking back I probably didn't need all that stuff I should have just studied using what I had and fortifying it with my college text books and the internet.
The two absolutely necessary DAT materials that I used were Kaplan and The Destroyer. The others were ok but these two, in my opinion, was what worked best for me and my study habits.
Good Luck
You can P.M me if you have any more questions.
