Hi Guys! This is my first post on SDN. I`ve been browsing this site for only 30 minutes and I am already addicted to it. This site gives you plenty of helpfull information.
I am a Senior at Hofstra University. I am majoring in Biology and have 3.7 GPA. I plan on taking DAT in August. I created a study plan that so far consists of study materials that I will use to prepare myself for DAT. I will try to tackle orgo with textbooks: Carey, Solomons and McMurray. For G-Chem I will use Brown & Lemay. For Bio - Campbell (Biology). I`m thinking these textbooks will help me understand the major concepts in detail. Then for PAT and Reading I will use Achiever and Topscore. Topscore and DAT Destroyer I will use for Sciences. I hope this plan will allow me to get 20 or above on every DAT section. What do you think? Any suggestions?

I would be wary of studying entire textbooks for the DAT. There is too much information in an entire 800+ page textbook and you may get frustrated with so much information! I'd suggest buying a prep book, like Kaplan DAT prep, and go through that entire book. Then when you hit a concept you don't understand, refer to a textbook. This will help you tackle studying without getting too overwhelmed, in my opinion.

I don't know anything about Achiever and TopScore, I haven't taken the test yet (am taking in August as well) but plan to start using these when I'm done w/ the Kaplan book (by July).

Hi, thank you very much for your reply. You are right. I thought about it as well. I may not have been clear. Yes that is what I plan on using the textbooks for, just to clarify some concepts that I do not understand. Sometimes the prep books just show you a "quick fix" solution, while not making you understand the main concept. This can be confusing for me sometimes.

yeah..I agree with uesider...textbooks are more than what you need for the DAT...Im using Kaplan blue book ..also..im using Schaum's Outlines for biology...good luck in your studying 🙂🙄

Thank you guys. Thank you very much for replying. You definetely saved me a lot of time. I did look at Schaum`s outlines. They are great for practise questions and remembering key concepts. How did you find their solutions to problems. Did you find them very helpfull or are they just broad and sometimes do not give you enough?
