Hello All SDNer,

Really bummed about my scores but here they are:

PAT:17
QR:16 (double 😱)
RC:16🙂eek🙂
BIO:21
GC:18
OC:21
Total Science:20 Academic Average:18

With a Cumulative GPA of 3.4 and a Science GPA 3.3 should I retake (is it too late)? AADSAS and TMDSAS have been processed and I'm planning on applying Fall of 2008. Can any1 recommend any dental schools I should apply too?

Material Used:
-Kaplan Blue Book (Good for reviewing, but would seek over study aids)
-DAT Destroyer (highly recommend)
-Topscore(Great for getting test format and good questions)
-DAT Achiever(SNS was good but PAT was soo hard, I finally practice only using hole punch and angles).
-CliffAP Notes for Biology(really great because it was well organized and easy to read, wasn't too much in depth for most sections)
-Kaplan Course Quizzes (Not very helpful, I felt it was a waste of my time) Kaplan BIO topics were too board and wasn't very well reflected in DAT. GC had too many calculation.

Bio:I felt Destroyer was a great prep. for this section. I saw like 3 questions almost exact alike on Destroyer. I had no questions covering taxonmy(which blows because I spent a alot of time covering).

GC: Very little calculations involved (I think only like 3).

OC: mostly reactions and Destroyer cover this area very well.

PAT: Hole punching and Angle was pretty tough.

RC: My reading wasn't too science base Like the readings from TopScore and Achiever. But I had alot of tone questions which probably was the reason for my downfall. Lowest score from TopScore and Achiever was 19.

QR: Questions wasn't really hard, but just time consuming. I had like 15 words problems and like 5 F(g)((x)) problems and 3 Trig questions. For those who are using Topscore and DAT Achiever scores to guide you, becareful I was getting like around 22 for QR.

Would appreciate any advice,

Thanks!

RC and QR are hard this year, thats for sure. I am wondering how you didn't do better on the sciences given your materials. How exactly were you studying Destroyer, Kaplan, etc?

QR and RC are killing people, but people seem to work with QR better than with RC. Suprising to see someone use the destroyer and not score as high. did you go through it many times?

The thread starter's scores are still pretty solid. I just want to take the opportunity to friendly remind people that getting Destroyer is not an automatic ticket to a higher Science score. Remember it is how you use the material that matters, not simply having it. Conversely, I am also certain that there are folks out there who have never even seen the Destroyer and did well on the sciences. Just my two cents.

Just my assessment. I honestly don't think that you have to worry about your QR or PAT score because it doesn't seem like schools care about those scores which I think sucks cause I got a 24 on the PAT. Anyway, the only thing I would worry about if I were you would be your RC score. I know that either 17 or 18 are the cut-off scores for a lot of schools but this may not matter because you did okay on the rest of your science scores. Would I retake? No, but definitely think about it next year if you don't get accepted. However, if you have a strong GPA/sGPA I think that you have a shot at some DS's this year. Good job & good luck with everything!

what does "5 F(g)((x)) problems " mean?

it means 5 times F times g times x

j/k

these type of questions usually require you to plug in equations and simplify, or if it may ask you for it's graph.
x and g can be anything: constants, variables or functions, where F is definetly a function, and 5 is a constant.

I think you are safe, apply early and you'll get in somewhere, maybe not into your top choice but somewhere.GL

I took the DATs today and got a 14 on the QR...and you thought YOU did bad.

I started studying with Kaplan Blue book, read it in its entirety. I went over destroyer like several times. GC 4 times, OC 4 times, bio 2 times then read only the solutions 2 times. (Felt like after my 2nd time I really understand what was meant to be learn from Destroyer, but I guess didn't learn it well enough)My friend hooked me up with Kaplan's course when he took the Kaplan DAT Class and I took all of them. Took all of topscore exams twice and Dat achiever once. Read CliffAP's Biology twice. Considering my study time, the only logical reason why my scores are so low must be because of my test taking ability.

just curious, are you prepharm or predental?

I was PrePharm. I actually got two acceptance letters from San Antonio and Houston Pharmacy School for 2007, but I changed my mind after speaking to several friends in the dental field. So now I'm pursing Dental (just hope I don't have to waste another entire year because I messed up my DAT)

I feel your pain man. Cheer up, tomorrow is gotta be a brighter day. Unless you live in Texas, its been raining crazy last couple of months 😀 (buts its gotta end some time)

Just wanna say a special thanks to denticus for his kind words and RozhonDDS for sharing his experience. Ya'll Rock

sorry i misspoke. i agree with you. i know destroyer is not a magic bullet and it requires lots of practice and fundamentals. you do have good scores besides qr which isn't that bad.
