Hey guys,
I just took my retook DAT today and I did well in the sciences and not so well in the math. I quit my job, studied everyday for 6 weeks, and couldn't sleep well since July.... I hope I have a shot... somewhere..anywhere..haha
Since this is very traditional to post.. I will tell you what pretty much saved my ass... yes you guessed it.. DAT DESTROYER..no this is not some advertisement..and I was one of those guys three weeks ago who looked at these kinds of posts and was like "Shut Up..who the heck thanks the author of a book??" So.. to give it a try ..and expecting nothing.. I emailed Dr. Romano last night..and got a phone call in two hours..Dr. Romano and Nancy are awesome!! Dr. Romano, even being like 11pm Eastern time, went over every little thing that could possible help me out on my DAT..I mean that is just classy .. after all the negatives I've gotten about this whole Dental Application process, it is nice to see some people do actually care..
Don't think that he is your door to get into dental school, because you have to put in everything you have for this test.. but he seems he will help you w/ the process (I only spoke to him last night, I wish I called him 3 weeks ago 🙁
Here are some of my tips:
Biology: I've used everything and anything..and honestly just do Kaplan, go over Shaum's and DAT DESTROYER questions over and over.. I've spent my money on Examstutor.com which has Biology Lectures that you can download on your Ipod..it was OKAY.. not worth the 40 dollars though..
I bought these stupid Sparknotes..I bought Sparknotes notecards (I liked mine better).. I mean I guess anything is better then nothing..but spend your time wisely..
Gen Chem: I liked Kaplan, but I went over my old textbook as well. It was alright, but too much information. Honestly, my Gen Chem section sucked. I had a guy talking to himself (or maybe someone else on his phone) next to me.... anyways.. just remember equations..concepts..DAT Destroyer questions..Topscore questions.. and I think you'll at least get an 18
Ochem: Everyone likes Kaplan Ochem.. i think its a joke.. I liked my old Mcmurry textbook.. don't UNDERESTIMATE this section..it's not ALL reactions.. there is a lot of questions on properties..
Reading: Cake! I liked the Kaplan outline method..it will at LEAST get you an 18..and I got 20+ on it.. I had herbal remedies, cAMP, and something else..
PAT: SUCKS.
Math: This was the killer.. it always is the killer..seriously.. when I thought i was breezing through the Math the last 20 questions killed me.. I used an college algebra book which has great ways on how to simplify word problems.. DAT DESTROYER is okay on this .. just do a lot of practice problems..
Anyways, I wish everyone luck and a wonderful holiday..
