DAT:What are my chances?

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
Come on now, if you're going to post a chances thread you need to give us some more info.

GPA? # of hours of volunteering and shadowing? ECs? Qualities that make you special?

Your DAT is good, it will get you where you want to go if all the other factors are good as well.

OK-
I have a 4.0 GPA, BIo major..but from a very mediocre college. I have a lot of extra curriculars including- volunteering at a community food distribution warehouse, mentoring, working with children with special needs, teaching... I have over 50 hours of shadowing at a general dentist...

I'm a well rounded person and am confident that if I get an interview I will make a good impression. The question is- will I get the interviews in the first place?

Yeah you should get a few acceptances at least, definitely think you'll get into NYU.

Yeah, you can walk straight into NYU with those stats.

You'd be a competitive applicant at Stony Brook and Buffalo too.

Columbia might be a stretch as they like 22AA+ applicants.

Thanks guys, phew. What about UMDNJ- I know it's not NY but it's close enough. I heard they only like accepting early applicants... I took my DAT late August..

Dude, you'll DEF get an interview at NYU (and an acceptance assuming you don't make yourself look like a schmuck during the interview). The same goes for UMDNJ. Now you just play the waiting game. Awesome stats by the way 👍.

Because of your GPA and AA, 4.0 and 20, you are set man. Come to buffalo, man! :-D

There is no such as mediocre college, you earned 4.0 with your grades. Good luck!

If you have 4.0 GPA and that DAT, why would you want to go to NYU and carry a big fat debt after 4 years?
Cmon, save yourself some money and apply to TX schools or cheapest Dental school.

I am planning to take the DAT next month or early November. I have a 3.8 science GPA, and a 3.7 overall cumulative. I took almost all of my science classes at a junior college but I have a strong science foundation. I have great letters of recommendations, research experience, volunteer, hospital experience, and looking to get dentistry experience soon. What are my chances at a California dental school, preferably UCLA or USC? Thanks!

Are you applying to Med. schools as well? If so, no chance for you.

I have a lot of humanitarian volunteer work, hospital research experience and EC/college organization involvement. Do you think I can still get in if I apply this cycle? Is 1-2 months enough to prepare if I have a good science background?
Thanks 🙂

I think you should wait one year and take your time studying for DAT and gaining some shadowing hours. 😀 Any other questions?
