DATing taking over your life
Started by molar3
I totally with you on this one. I can't waste my time any minute.
Your day to day sounds like mine. This is the first time ever I took time off from training brazilian jiu jitsu. . . Can't wait to get my life back.

Listen, if you're feeling absolutely miserable you NEED to go out! I'm not saying go out and go crazy, but take a breather! Seriously, you can sacrifice 3 hours of studying to see your friends! I'm taking my DAT this coming Thursday and I went out for sushi for with 2 friends last night and just chilled. I've been studying since the beginning of May and have gone out like a total of 5 times because if I don't leave my bedroom of my house I know I will crack! If you go out just to relax, you'll realize that you have more energy than sitting and cramming all freaking day. It's Friday, GO OUT TONIGHT! If you're like me and feel like jumping out of a window from all the anxiety this test has created, you need just a *little* break. Believe me, it'll do you a world of good! Good luck!!!
How bad do you want it? Life is all about sacrifices, learn to just deal w/ them. A few fun nights will be forgotten, but if you do well on your DAT you'll be glad and remember it for a lot longer.

I deactivated fb too. DAT definitely rules my life right now.. but just remember all this will be worth it at the end. So stay motivated and try to take a break once a week at least so you don't go insane! =)
I gained 20 pds during my DAT. Lost all of it after. It was worth it though!

Yeah.. This summer is DAT.. Last summer was OChem.. had a break from hs-college but before that spent every summer in HS studying as well~... Also planning to go to UoP so no summers after next year (well, the month of june next year)
Oh well, hopefully it will all be worth it... and by now, it seems I've grown accustomed to having no summers lol

I lost a bit more than 10lbs in the month I spent studying...
I lost over 15lbs in my studying. Now I wake up when I want to, check my application status, and layout at the pool all day. It's great. Keep studying it's worth it.
Besides, if you think your social life sucks now, dental school can't be much better.
Write yourself a schedule on excel or paint or whatever, if you are ahead of your schedule, just take a break and play some video games! That's what I do!

I read about 60 pages a day, finish the entire "book" in like 8 days. This goes for barron's, ap cliffs, and kaplan. thats like 24 days right there!
and also the hardest part of "reading" is the biology part. you're not really reading for gchem and ochem, and i tend to understand those sections better so you can easily do like 100 pages in a day in those section. it's freakin biology that TAKES FOREVER to consume.
also, watch all of chad's videos in like 7 days. watch like 4 days a day and you're set.
the rest? destroyer + thinkwell videos (best thing ever) + khan academy
am i the only one who loves watching videos rather than reading???
Im glad im not the only one who feels like this! thanks guys.
and yea i watch videos too, ochem and gen chem are more math based so either you get the math or you dont and if you dont then it takes a while to figure the problem out. I watched all of chads gen chem videos in 2 days, and his ochem videos in 2 days too, for a total of 4 days. but thats because i was ocd about it and stayed up till about 3am every night doing so. Then i review notes and retake the quizzes. its a sick cycle. its friday night and im spending it with best friend, chad. my only friend.

Yeah i kinda reach my breaking point a few days ago and have just taken it easy since then and probably until my test next weds. I mean if you study it you know it, there's no sense in over doing it. I say take a break if you got time to spare.
you guys are HARDCORE lol!
the DAT's really not as hard as you guys think it is! (unless you get a tough exam, then that's just bad luck)
i was super stressed out too, and pretty much didn't do much for 2 weeks other than study, sleep, eat, school, and take Youtube breaks.
considering how you guys have started studying 2 months ago, you will BE FINE!

I love to go running when I feel stressed out! It's a great way to give your brain a break and rejuvenate your body. Also, you'd spend an hour or so away from studying, but at least you're doing something good for yourself. So it's the least guilty thing I do away from my pile of books.
But I'm with you all on the stressing out. DAT on Wed!!! AH

you're not the only one, i watch a lot of videos too, you tube has a lot of info too, though sometime i get distracted watching other things lol. I watched chad twice, thinkwell is great, but I am having a hard time watching the khan academy cuz its more like listening and looking at mr. khan drawing stuff, didn't work too well for me, i like animation. and when I read bio, I look at their pictures first, then read.
It's like having a full time job, but not getting payed. At least the test is on topics I have some affinity for. It could be on something horrifying like microeconomics (not like that has anything to do with dental care, but I guess the digestion of annelids doesn't either...). I've started getting stress acne and gaining weight and what-not. One day when I got done with my study schedule early, I exercised, shaved my legs, painted my toenails, put on a dress, and made my boyfriend take me on a date at like 10 at night. I felt a lot better after that. I usually plan ahead for days off of studying though so that I can spread out that particular day's work over a few days in order to take a breather and keep my friends from forgetting my name. 👍
I also feel like biology takes the LONGEST to read. Mainly because I took it so long ago and much of it we glossed over to stay on schedule. Endocrinology was the worst twelve pages of my life.
