For those of you in D-school, would you say it is easier to concentrate on school if you are not in a serious relationship?? I know alot of dental students are even engaged or married, and I was wondering if you have to sacrifice your personal life in order to put a 100% towards your academics.

I'm married and I do feel I've sacrificed quite a bit in order to focus best on my studies. My husband really feels it. I do have free time, just much much less than before school. I will say though that the first two years were the absolute worst. Once I hit third year, I got a fair amount more free time......which I think saved my sanity!

We are both working hard during these times. She does most of the caring of our son and I do a lot of house cleaning and other stuff. We always try to do some thing on the weekend outside the house. Generally we are both are busy doing something; she not on the coach eating potato chip and complaining that I am not paying attention to her.
I personally find that I study harder because I am married. It is easier to focus so that I can spend quality time with her when I am done studying. I am not a person to stress out though, so I find plenty of time to help around the house and do nice things for her. It is so nice to come home to a great wife. No kids yet, but she works full time as a hygienist (sugar mama) so we are both pretty tired when we get home.
Personally, I think it would be harder to invest a lot of time during D-School into LOOKINg for a relationship. I am happy that I am married, because I probably wouldn't have personally found any real time for "experimental" relationships for a few years of school.
