Hey all,

I took the DATS and got the following:

PAT = 22
Quantitative Reasoning = 15
Reading Comp = 21
Biology = 18
General Chem = 16
Organic Chem = 19
Total Science = 18
Academic Avg = 18

Should I take the DAT's again? Am I a good candidate to get accepted into a dental school of my choice, such as USC or NYU? Your advice is greatly appreciated. Thank You.

consideration depends on a number of factors ... the DAT just being one of those factors. What are you other stats? GPA? etc.?

Science GPA = 3.1
Overall GPA = 3.24

I still have a semester of classes to finish, and some summer classes, so both of these numbers will be going up.

I would retake the DAT. Pay special attention to the areas where you can improve, like your QC and Gen Chem (maybe buy review books specifically for those). Your GPA is a little low, so if you can bring that up and have an improved DAT your chances will be higher. Good luck!

honestly, my score was 18/19/21..

GPA was 3.4

and i only got one interview and they rejected me.

it was becuz my bio was 17.

with that 16, and low gpa, they're gonna be tossing u out guaranteed. it doens't matter what ur extracurr, shadowing blah blah are becuz honestly, with all the competition, ur numbers are all that matters that get u passed the first screening. retake it while u still have time, otherwise u'll end up like me and have to reapply and wait a whole year again.

i think it also depends on how many schools you apply to?

I had a 16 in PA and I got in - I think it depends on the schools you are applying to and haw strongly you feel that all you other credentials can hold up

overall, your science scores are on the weak side. especially chemistry. also, your quantitative reasoning score is way too low, although general chem will hurt you more because science scores are in general more reflective of how you will do in dental school. Your GPA aren't spectacular either, so you really should retake the DAT and really boost your science scores up. you still have time, and really focus on your weaker sections. You should aim for at the very least an 18 or 19 all across the board.
