Hi everyone,

I am new at this forum and I think it's great to hear from both dentists and students. I just recently took the DATs and got the following scores:

Academic Avg: 20
Perceptual: 18
Quantitative: 17
Reading: 22
Biology: 20
Chemistry: 23
Org Chem: 19
Total Science: 20

I really don't know how to feel because I've seen several people with scores of 24. I was hoping to get around that range because my undergrad gpa is 2.4. However, I am in my second year of grad school doing a masters in public health with a gpa of 3.6.

Could anyone tell me what they think about my 18 on PAT and 20 on AA & Overall Science? I know undergrad gpa is a big factor and was wondering what position my DAT scores and grad gpa put me in as a dental school applicant. Thanks.

that's a heck of a lot of C's, I really think you need a 22+ DAT

agree, that is a heck of a lot of C's. Nothing you can do but pull excellent scores in your masters program.

You should be proud, 20 is a solid score. Your 20 DAT vs. 22 DAT probably isnt going to be the deal maker. Other aspects of your application like volunteering, community involvment, dental experience, life experiences, personal statement, LOR's etc, will make the difference.

Good luck

BTW, there is a DAT forum

thanks for the feeback, but i'm somewhat confused. should i take the DATs over?

Instead of taking the DAT again I would try to increase volunteer hours and try to take some advanced classes and make good grades in them (human anatomy, human phys, cell biology, endocrin..., etc...). I do not know how others would advise you, but I think this is solid advice. With a 2.4 I really dunno how many schools will give you an invitation, unless your volunterr hours are jam packed.

dont they consider your grad GPA as well?

I agree with all those people saying to get more volunteer time.
No need to re-take DAT. it is a good score.

thanks guys. best of luck to you all.
