I would not say that. Go into pharmacokinetics and you will get paid as much as a clinical pharmacist about $85K starting, in pharmaceutical companies.
This is the PhD in pharmaceutical sciences with an emphasis in PKPD.
Then do an undergrad in biochem, with some research and apply to PhD instead.
Depends on the variety of research your asking about. There arent too many pharmd's that do bench research, thats much more of a phd thing. Yes there are some that do, but its still a pretty low percentage. There are pharmacists who work with drug companies and research hospitals on drug trials.
I'm volunteering in a research pharmacy. Mostly we dispense research medication to patients. We also have to keep track of all the study protocols that have been approved by IRB that we're presently dispensing meds for. I guess it is a lot like retail pharmacy just at a much slower pace and fewer meds.
Hey, how do you get involved with volunteering at a research pharmacy? That sounds like something Id love to do...I'm in college in upstate New York, but I live in NYC, any suggestions? 😀
