Hi, all, first time poster. I've checked around in hopes of finding this answered in another thread, but my apologies in advance if similar questions have been asked before.

I'm graduating soon, and my plan is to obtain licensure and hopefully find a job where I can gain more experience with DBT... However, my state seems to have very little in the way of actual DBT clinics (with comprehensive services including skills groups, individual therapy, consultation, phone coaching, etc). Is anyone aware of metropolitan areas that have a strong DBT presence? I'm sure that Seattle does, and it also seems like the twin cities have a lot of clinics.

I know this might seem kind of arbitrary, but I'm hoping to start looking into different state licensure requirements before it's too late for me to take additional classes. I'm also aware that DBT is becoming more widely practiced, but I'd love to find somewhere that has more than just a skills groups at the adolescent inpatient unit, etc.

Thank you!

The east coast seems to have quite a few (New York City, for instance). You can also do a post-doc or pay for the trainings through Behavioral Tech.

Nope, not looking for a postdoc. I'm graduating with a masters degree and I'm hoping to go back and get a PhD in the next couple of years (ideally I'd love to do clinical research related to DBT), but I really want to get some applied experience before I do that. I live in a midwest city and all the surrounding areas seem to do very little DBT. I'm wondering if there are other areas of the country where this is more prominently utilized (and hoping to relocate upon graduation to start my career). Apologies... Does this make sense?

I agree with Cara that NYC has many training opportunities for DBT, but at the master's level, I don't know. Just scan major medical centers here (NYU, Columbia, Mount Sinai, Cornell, St. Lukes-Roosevelt) to see what they may offer in terms of clinical research. Perhaps you can gain exposure by working as a clinical research coordinator.

Seattle, Portland, SF and LA also have clinical training programs or clinical service sites where DBT is implemented and you could definitely get more information through Behavioral Tech. Northwestern in Chicago also has faculty and programming in the Med School/Family Institute.

Massachusetts is loaded with DBT sites, especially western Massachusetts areas (Worcester, Springfield). Just do a google search for 'dialectical behavior therapy massachusetts' and a few things should turn up 😉. Boston itself is more psychodynamic/psychoanalytic.

If you're in the Midwest and have to move to one of the coasts, you may as well at least check out Seattle. I don't know about paid jobs, but I know from first hand experience that Dr Linehan's lab often has (unpaid) RA positions available. The administrators in the lab are very willing to talk with people about opportunities. Maybe you could find a job, volunteer for them and establish some connections/research experience on the side, and go from there. That is if you plan on moving to pursue this..

PM me if you have any specific questions about Seattle etc. and I would be happy to help if I can.
