I am in the process of moving down to the DC/MD area and have a question for the community about the licensing process. I am currently licensed psychologist in another state and have pursued a license in both Maryland and DC.

I see that Maryland has a temporary exception to practice if license does not come through by the time you are relocated/ready to start working. I however, do not see anything allowing one to temporarily practice in DC. Does anyone know if DC allows for exceptions or allowance to practice before final license comes through?

Thank you in advance!

Their licensing board is the best source, though I know many licensing boards can be a challenge to contact and receive a clear answer.

In case others bump this thread in the future...if the work is court-related, there sometimes can be an exception (basically a courtesy to allow a # of days practice from an otherwise licensed clinician).

The DC board is a bit of a mess. Their website has outdated information (e.g., they no longer require applicants to complete a jurisprudence exam) and, as you've noticed, their policies are unclear. They're pretty good at answering pointed questions over the phone.

Thank you again!
Yes, the DC board's website and application have conflicting information, and getting someone on the phone has been a challenge. But I will keep trying, and in the meantime I hope my license comes through!
