I'm likely going to be attending RFUMS and I'm very excited about it. I completely agree with your pros. However, I don't necessarily know if the interprofessionalism is that being of a deal and I've heard a lot of M1s have really liked the systems based curriculum. The EMT class was pretty unpopular I heard, but it sounds like they're taking a lot of feedback from the students and it should be a lot better this year. The big things for you sounds like it'll be comfort, weather, and match list. I don't know much about UofA, but Rosalind's match list always seems really strong, so if you're set on a speciality, I feel like you have a good chance from RFU.

Edit: I know interprofessionalism is a big deal throughout the campus, I just meant I don't think it'll negatively impact the medical eduction you receive there

I don't know much about about Rosalind, but I thought I could comment on U of A. First, I'd say the top Pro that is not on your list is how student-centered the program is. Everyone here is focused on helping students thrive in all aspects of life. We have excellent learning specialists, career advisors and a robust wellness program. We have two private psychologists contracted with the school to provide FREE services. Just call them up, no dealing with bills and the school doesn't know who has seen them. The focus on well being and the student extend to clinical sites as well where we're treated with the respect all people deserve.

I don't think the step 1 pass rate you've heard is accurate. Do you mind me asking where you're getting that from? I'm also not sure on what the normal time of dedicated weeks are at other schools but feel that 6 weeks was more than adequate with the foundation from the first 1.5 years.

Congrats on being in a place to choose between medical schools! I'm sure both will help you become a great physician. PM me if you have any questions you'd like answered .

Your board score will come down to you. Ive heard many students say anything longer than 6 weeks is unnecessary for boards (heard this from students at 4 different MD schools). And your match will be mostly based on your board scores (and being realistic about where you are applying for residency). Go where you will be happiest, costs being equal between the two

I would go wherever you think you'll be the happiest. At the end of the day how you personally prepare for step will determine how you will do, so I wouldn't base your decision off of that. I ended up making my decision based on where I thought I would be happiest. We do have to live there for four years and I think at least personally I'd rather be dealing with the stresses of medical school in a place I truly can be happy in. People seem to devalue that sometimes, but being in a place you want to be can have such a significant impact on your life.

Also something to consider if you have family in CA it would be a lot easier to see them being in Phoenix versus Chicago. Being in Chicago you may have trouble making it home for the holidays due to snow with flights being delayed or cancelled. Slight disclaimer I'm from the Northeast, and I can't wait to get away from snowy winters so I'm definitely biased to warmer climates!! I live nearly 8 months of the year indoors primarily since it's too cold to enjoy outside.

In the end these are both great schools though and they both have different opportunities for you to benefit from. I know this is a huge decision, but I don't think you can make a wrong decision here! Good luck 🙂
