I was wondering what is the benefit of DDS/ PhD over the DDS program? I know this program takes about seven years and instead people graduate with both DDS and oral biology PhD. Which one is better, spend 3 years for residency or oral biology PhD? regarding the job opportunity and income after graduation?

dunno how the PhD would be more beneficial unless ur becoming a teacher

In general, research scientists do not get paid very much, they get supported. It is a very rewarding career and you will be spending a lot of time in academia.

It may be something to look at esp. if you have an interest in research and or teaching. There are a lot of Scholarship programs for the DMD/PhD. Also a dearth of dental professors are forcing schools to increase the pay.

i dont understand why dds/phd gets paid less, because i thought md/phd gets paid a lot more in avg than just md's....isn't that right?

i believe with dds/phd, u get to be researching 90% of time, and treating patients 10% of the time. And dds/phd do earn less than just dds...
