Do a little search I am pretty sure you will get this information.

You have to take the DAT (Dental admission test) in the US and also complete certain prerequisites, 2 semesters of each, which are college level courses like general physics, general chemistry, organic chemistry, english and biology. These courses should be approved by the ECE or WES (if taken in a foreign country) which are credential evaluational services. Your GPA must be high enough to compete with the others ... they have other factors that deal like exta curricular activities ... volunteering etc .. Its easy I have tried it. I didnt go ahead with that due to other reasons. I did 2 semesters of General Chemistry. Some schools also expect other prerequisites like non science .. so waht I would do is contact the school you are looking into and ask them how it works at their school .... Any questions?

Good luck :luck:

Thanks guys..........i appreciate your help.

Hi rct2004,

Yes you surely can apply for a four year DDS program, but only a very few schools would be willing to take you in with your foreign credentials, what I mean to say is that only a very few schools will be willing to waive the pre requistes considering your dental degree. i know for sure UNC school of dentistry accpets foreign dentists with a acceptable DAT score. Plz visit thier website to have further in sight in this matter.

My honest opinion would be that, whichever schools you are seriously considering, set up an appointment with the dean of admissions over there, go with all your credentials and be prepared to explain him logically and diplomatically how taking the pre requisites of chemistry , biolgoy and stuff doesnt really make sense in your situation as you have already taken the dental education curriculam in your country and how you are in a overqualified position to enter the first year with those credentials. your visit would be an unofficial interview kinda thing with him, so u have to impress upon him how eligible and enthusiastic you are about the four year program.

I wouldnt ensure that this would surely work out, but it may click sometimes!! If you are seriously considering a four year program then this is the best thing to do!!

all the very best with your pursuit!!

Your idea is great and I agree with it, BUT BUT BUT it could backfire if the candidate in question is not really prepared for such "visit". You have to be really good in you speech and communication skills to go to an admission's dean and tell him/her that you're overqualified, because so are the people with masters degrees in biochemestry or physiology and they still have to meet pre requisities. So unless you are very confident about your interview skills don't mess with something that may backfire and ruin your chances of applying. :luck:
