DDS vs DMD

DDS can do anything from perscribing medications to surgery. DMD can only consult the patients. Just kidding... No difference. DP

I think there is a difference in the philosophy behind each degree, but there is no real-world difference.

My guess is that it was a way for some--perhaps specialists who didn't get a MS or MSD during their residency--to look comparable to other specialists and has eventually spilled over to general practice.
Reality is, "PA" means nothing more than "PC" or "LLC" from a clinical ability perspective.

Hi all,
I many times drive around and notice on the dental offices with dentist's names and credentials along with dental degrees. An example would be Dai Phan DDS, FAGD, MAGD, PA and this appears in the layman's eye as this guy has more degrees than Joe Mo DDS. I for once has heard a patient said that Dr.So and so must be so good because he has so many credentials after his name. I think that these credentials are appropriate in a resume but they should not adverstise in the public since it can make a lay person thinking that particular dentist is much more qualified compared to a specialists without a master degree (like many 4 year OMS). DP
