DDS w/ PhD?

I was wondering what peoples opinion on the DDS with PhD program. As far as I can tell it gives you the added benefit to research and teach while requires more time and money. The latter would probably be significant to a student of 25+ yrs and over 100k in debt. Although I'm still rather curious at the opportunities it offers since I happen to love research and would feel very fulfilled if I could run a practice while making new discoveries.
