I'm almost done with my AMCAS application (plan on submitting tomorrow)!

YES IM AWARE I'm VERY LATE for the 2014 entering class

I looked on the schools I'm wanting to apply to, and they have due dates for AMCAS application. Most are mid October or November so while I knew I was pushing it late, I thought I still had a bit of time. But today I called the admissions office of one school, and she told me that it doesn't just have to be submitted by that date, but be VERIFIED! And that according to AMCAS will take 8 weeks currently.

Can anyone confirm that is the way it works? If so....I guess i missed my chance to apply anywhere this year? I just got my MCAT back, so I was surprised I might have already missed deadlines. Of course its my fault, just wondering if I have options and if they information was correct....

Submitting an application doesn't really mean anything to a medical school. They can only review an app once it has been verified by AMCAS. I would suggest saving your money and applying early next year.

Schools won't even be able to see your application until it's verified. I checked just now and they're still reviewing people who submitted on July 31st. I know verification times are supposed to go down as peak season ends, but with how late everything happened this cycle that may not be the case.

Your best bet would be to apply early next year and just enjoy life in the meantime.

Do not waste your money by applying this year. Apply next year, and apply in June since you already have everything written. Find something productive to do during this year.

If you insist on pushing through and applying this year (which, let's face it, you probably are going to in the face of all advice to the contrary), do a little extra legwork and at least try and identify schools with later or longer interviewing seasons. Some of them wrap up in December.

Ok thanks for the advice. I guess I waited to late. It just surprised me though. One of the guys in my class submitted late october last year and was accepted to multiple schools

From the AMCAS website (https://services.aamc.org/AMCAS2_2014/):

"The application deadlines set by schools pertains to the date your application is submitted to AMCAS, not processed by AMCAS. The additional time it will take to verify applications will not cause you to miss the primary application deadline, and remember that once your AMCAS application is processed, it is automatically delivered to your designated medical schools."
