What does "will be accepting applications for 2010-2011" mean? For residency programs that start after a transition year, does that mean applying now would be for 2010-2011? How come many of them say "accepting applications for 2009-2010" still?

Also, some programs have deadlines of Oct 15th but on the application page it says it still accepts applications. That just means it's not updated? TIA

Well, to answer your last question I would say that residency webpages are notorious for being out of date. To wit: http://www9.georgetown.edu/gumc/departments/pathology/framegtp.html (click on "residents.")

In my experience you are lucky if the program website is up to date for this year, let alone this month. I don't know the answer to your first question, I suspect it depends on the program, some might mean apply now, some might mean for the next cycle.

^Thanks so much, I suspected they had some old info.

Also, I was wondering if applying to a specialty that starts in pgy-2 (requires transitional year) means double the application fees, since the student would need to apply to transitional programs as well as residency programs?

Why worry about this now? Focus on getting into med school first...don't worry about residency applications.

Yes you have to pay twice the application fees if you are applying to PGY 1 prelim and/or transitional years and also upper level spots.

In terms of deadlines, etc. always check with the program if you are concerned. Web sites aren't necessarily up to date.
