Hello everyone!

I'm applying to both SOPHAS (Harvard, Columbia) and non-SOPHAS (Hopkins, Washington) schools and have a couple of questions concerning application submission deadlines.

1) For Johns Hopkins, they're requiring an International Credential Evaluation (I'm Canadian). I'll probably get it done by WES. Has anybody gotten this done before? And is there anybody from the 2 year IB system who only needed 3 years of undergrad? - I'm from the CEGEP system and am unsure about whether to get that transcript evaluated or not, and whether to send a transcript to SOPHAS.

2) My earliest deadline is Dec 1 - Will I be OK if I take the GRE in late October?

3) SOPHAS says it takes up to 4 weeks for the application to get to the designated schools. Does that mean that I should submit the SOPHAS application in early November? With transcripts and references and GRE scores and everything? That makes me VERY nervous!!

Any input on any of these points would be much appreciated 🙂

I cannot answer the first question because I am not an international student.

I am taking the GRE on the 27th of October, and I am not worried in the least. When you designate (up to 4) scores on the day of testing, list those schools with the earliest deadline. Scoring takes approximately 2 weeks after the test, and since things are done electronically, it should make the December 1st deadline.

To me, a December 1st deadline is a November 1st deadline. However, you have to be mindful of how SOPHAS regards a "completed" application and how the school regards the same thing. You should have already sent transcripts to SOPHAS and written on the online portal each of your courses (as annoying and obnoxious this process is). Official transcripts are only required IF you are accepted to a program (unless a school specifically asks for a separate one sent to them directly, apart from the one you send to SOPHAS. This is generally because schools actually do not see your transcripts from SOPHAS. They see the grades, courses, but not the actual transcript.).

Also, some programs (read the fine print very clearly) consider the date you submitted the completed application to SOPHAS as the day that it was complete rather than the day it arrives to the program. So, if I completed it today but SOPHAS does not send it until 4 weeks later. The school will consider today the completion date rather than 4 weeks from now. (Some schools recognize that the arbitrary 4 weeks is out of our control.) But this varies for each program.
