What's the best way to handle if your interviewer is running late and it interferes with your travel plans? For instance, theoretically my interview should end by 3pm. I scheduled a bus ride back at 4:15pm because any other alternatives would have gotten very expensive for me... :-( But now I realize that was dumb and there's a good chance my interview won't end at 3pm (or even by 3:30pm). In the unfortunate incident that my 2:30pm interviewer doesn't become available till 3:30pm or my first interview runs over by half an hour, how should I handle this??

what kind of bus is it?
for greyhound, they let you on a later bus if they have space i believe

It's Bolt Bus, and they have a similar standby service, but this is unfortunately the last bus of the day...

Let the interview coordinator know in advance, ie. now so they can possibly let you interview earlier.

Often they ask if anyone has an early flight etc.

That would have been good if I thought of this earlier :-( I am considering just asking someone in the admissions office in the morning what would be the best thing to do if something like this happens (e.g. come back to the adm office and they can see what they can do, tell the interviewer at the beginning about my time constraints, etc)

I think you're being a little overly neurotic. The school should have told you when the interview day would end. You should be able to expect that you will be done by then

Haha that's what I was wondering... I did read in the school specific thread and the interview feedback forum for the school that some people's interviews ran ridiculously late (by 1+ hour). So I kinda freaked myself out, but I realize this isn't an impossibility. The day ends with my interviews, and I was just told that my interviews will be at 2pm and then 2:30pm, so I assumed my day would end at 3pm.

Theoretically, all should be good; realistically, I'll know better for next time.

at the very least you should keep the number for a taxi company and have a contingency plan for them to pick you so you can get to the bus stop on time

Yeah... I've basically done all I can I think. I have a list of like 10 different cab companies and their numbers just in case... I've basically studied the subway route, what times they come, etc so I can - at the very least - not get on the wrong one or wait forever if they're running every half an hour. If I get out of the school by 3:30pm latest, I will make it!

Worry about your interview not your bus, shuttle, taxi, train, or plane. Becoming a doctor > buying two bus tickets.

Make excuses is not a good way. But when i am really very late, i have no choice but to make some excueses
