Poor girl? Sorry to burst your bubble, but OwlMyste is probably a 33-year old dude.

sacrament--i agree that there are bizarre believability issues based on past threads and what not. Unfortunately some people (similar to spoiled children) perceive any attention (good or bad) as attention nonetheless.

Incidentally I bet this thread will generate some interesting comments.

I already added Owlmyste to my ignore list.

"Hi everyone! I just graduated from middle school and popped my first pimple and I'm really happy! I'm also torn b/w Brain Surgery and Gastrointestinology... or maybe even Meteorology b/c I really like Meteors. Suzie told me that she heard little Billy say he likes me during show & tell yippeee! I have a few questions for you all since you're grown ups. What is the meaning of life? Did the chicken come first, or the egg? Oh and I don't think doctors should work too hard b/c then they get tired and think funny. I know nothing about medicine. Could you all please tell me some more about it? Thanks 🙂!"

Hmmm... who could this be?

Dr. Cuts,

Congrats on matching. I'm here at LSU in shreveport; I know you'll have a good time here.

actually...if you look at my avatar...that pic in the avatar...is me......just so ya know......

how adult of you to post a thread that shows you resorting to namecalling..(calling me a clever troll...).....at any rate, I reported you and your little 'dealing with owlmyste' post to the moderator for harassment.....

you 4-6 years ago before you started medical school!!!!
-------------------------------------------------
I am not immune to pimples, but I pop the SOB's if I see them...I graduated from Middle School in '99...last time I had show and tell was in 1st grade....I'm a legal adult too..(over age 18)...so I am part of the "grown-up" group.....maybe by the skin of my teeth being only 19...but nonetheless still apart of the same "grown-up" group....
.maybe a child compared to you but oh well, thats life....would rather be young right now anyhow....means I live longer and have more of my life to live.....even if it is just by a few years...the chicken came first not the egg....the egg is formed inside the chicken, and the egg hasta be kept warm by the chicken sitting on it....and if the egg came first there would be no chicken to keep it warm to hatch the egg...the reason I have said that I dont believe doctors should have lack of sleep is believe it, I HAVE been a patient in a hospital before, so I DO have a say in the matter if it would affect ME(the patient) in the longrun!....hot damn! youre absolutely correct on that one,...I dont know squat about medicine! why do you think I came to this board to begin with? believe it or not...every single last one of you doctors at one point in their life knew about as much of medicine as I do......thats why ya hafta learn about medicine!!!!!!!!!!!!!

there does that answer your questions?🙄

Intensive diplomacy and negotiations have failed. I support a cohesive, collaborative effort in the deOWL'ification of SDN. Members in support of the coalition unite now to rid SDN of the continuing threat of thread derailment, ongoing annoyance, and overall wasted band width.

amen sister! sign me up...

to all who dispise me in one way or another:

sorry to burst your bubble(s), but the Moderators themselves told me that I have just as much right to post here at SDN as you do....so no matter how your "deowlification" coalition does...this is a no win situation...and is one battle that no matter how hard you try, or how much you lie or kid yourselves...that you're just not going to win....so just do a favor....2 words.....

back off!

Have y'all ever seen the movie Election? Well Owl sort of reminds me of Reese Witherspoon in that movie... incredibly motivated & charged--good things--but sometimes just a bit too much of a gunner--a bad thing. The earlier the former attributes appear, the better--I wish I'd been like that at her age. The bright side of this is that the latter attribute can be tempered and modified... with age and experience... and that's exactly what Owl lacks right now. However, I don't think she's a troll--I don't think she's deliberately posting to annoy people. Besides, y'all have to admit, some of the ridiculous things she's posted are so out there that they're actually funny... e.g. did she really think I thought she was Nigerian !? I mean most other kids her age are goofing around at keg parties... it is somewhat commendable that she's on these boards asking questions no? Maybe we could try and help her instead? Guide her perhaps? I'll start.

Owl tip #1: Try and avoid asking broad, sweeping, almost-unanswerable questions like "What is Neurology like?" First, it shows that you have done zero research on your own and makes you look lazy. And B 😉, how on earth is someone supposed to answer that? First read up on a topic, then ask about the finer points utilizing more focused, poignant questions. I can almost guarantee you'll get informative responses that way.

Don't get discouraged Owl... but do try and heed some of our advice.

While I am loathe to intervene, I am getting tired of complaints by and about OwlMyste.

Although no one has overly violated the SDN TOS, I would remind all of you that we pride ourselves on having a rather convivial environment here...at least most of the time. Therefore, if you have a problem with one of the other users, please PM them and do not "call them out", or at the very least just ignore their posts. These things tend to resolve on their own in time.

Finally, in defense of womansurg, everyone should be aware, especially those who might have little experience in the area, that not all residents, even surgical ones, are in a constant state of movement/working 24/7. You would likely be very suprised at the amount of hurry up and wait that surgical residents have to deal with. I have no problem with womansurg posting at 5 pm - she very well could be a) home post call and spending her off hours perusing the forums; b) in the OR or OR Lounge waiting for a case to start; c) sitting on the floor waiting for her team to round; d) sitting in the CT scanner, waiting for her patient to go through the doughnut; e)in the Trauma bay waiting for the patient come in, etc. Just because she has time to post at a decent hour is no reason to question her veracity.

I agree with the moderator, but have to admit, I did LOL at womansurg's post! Wasn't sure if it was intended as pure humor or in any seriousness; nonetheless, I was ready to sign up.

My 2 cents: I believe Owlmyste should have the same opportunity to post on this forum; however, I would encourage her to take Dr. Cut's sage advice and, also, to post her questions to another forum, one which is more in keeping with the type and quality of question asked, or comment made.

A pearl to Owlmyste (Jessica): Read the first quote you listed under your name. While this may be true in life, it is generally worthwile to endeavor to try when possible. Good luck with your career search and academic pursuits.

No, no...I've been 'found out'. I confess - I am a cable repair man. Not a surgeon, not a doctor, not a woman...but a cable repair man, who has watched quite a few episodes of 'ER' and picked up a bit of the lingo.

Owl, your investigative powers match your social acumen.

womansurg,
it's been a really nervewracking day today but the thought of you as a cable repair man actually made me laugh out loud. thanks.

CUTS- i was thinking about the comparison with Election for like 2 weeks. so who would you be, the guy played by M.Broderick? hmm...

I knew it!!! I had my suspicians and all the clues were there but I couldnt piece it together. Quite a catch OwlMyste...quite a catch. I hope you consider Pathology as a future speciality as the field could use more people with deductive reasoning skillz like yours.

Yikes, bite your tongue!!! I like to read the Pathology forum, and so far it's been delightfully Owl-free.

OWl - why not post in the pre-allo forum? ya lil TROLL!!!+pissed+

Well since she is so keen on surg, rads and gas, i thought she would be limiting herself when she makes her fateful decision in 2011.

In keeping with the spirit of OwlMyste, does anyone know any good retirement facilities? I believe I will start looking at them in 2050.

A Coalition of the Willing to disarm OwlMyste of her weapons of mass annoyance?
I'm on board.

Seriously though y'all... Owl and I have exchanged a few PMs (get your minds out of the gutter please) and I really don't think she means to be annoying. She's just a bit overzealous. Hell in today's day and age that'll probably get her into Harvard med!

Owl, don't take this stuff too seriously. Most of these people are just joking... jerking your chain. I don't think you should abscond from the boards--just be a little more judicious with your posts.

🙂

OwlMyste,
To get into medical school you've got to be able to work well with people (this list sure luv's ya!), and pay attention to detail (what about 'All times are GMT' at the bottom of the screen didn't you understand). Best of luck on your MCAT's.

Womansurg...my Tivo ain't working...can you come out and take a look?

This is hilarious...OM has ruffled quite a few feathers...

Ok,ok the attempt at comedy is why I'm becoming a doctor. Many of you have given OM great advice in this thread as well as in others. It is up to her to take it. If she bothers you that much then don't reply to her questions. Also, remember she is just 19 years old. (I wonder how that 12 yo in med school is doing?😕 )

Book list for OM:
1. First Aid for the Wards
2. Isersons Getting into Residency
3. that AMCAS book with the list of all medschools

Seriously OM, getting into med school should be the first hurdle you overcome. As someone mentioned in another thread: Don't ask questions whose answers you could find with a little research. The books I suggested will answer most of your questions about call, lifestyle, pay, etc.

If this doesn't prove that Owl is a troll, I don't know what does. Even a twelve year old couldn't be this clueless.

I will look up where I saw the synthesized organs...and post them...

Good advice...although I'm thinking grad'ing out of H.S. doing decent on SAT/ACTs and surviving the first couple of years of college might even be a better place to start. As others have pointed out OM you are kinda putting the cart before the horse as they say. First things first...it's nice to dream about the future, but you have to take the steps to get you there. A marathon starts with one step and is an accumulation of steps that gets you to the finish line, there's no short cuts, you have to concentrate on the steps immediately in front of you or you may never reach the finish line Owl'son...

Ummm....don't want to get into this but reading these posts make my guts wrench thinking "Cluster B" Personality big time.
