I noticed that my application is now complete including scanning of the Dean's letter. However, no program has downloaded this letter. I was also scanning some old emails including the BID letter which states that all dean's letters are released by ERAS on Nov 1st. Wonder why they would delay a document release even though it has been uploaded...

and this is a good way for the applicant to know that their letter is done

how much weight does the dean's letter have...I mean, isn't it reiterating everything that has already been transmitted?! boggles the mind

Now that's an interesting question, and I keep on gettin' mixed opinions on that....pretty much it is a collaboration of the comments that the people have written abut you during your rotations, and also give a class rank or something along those lines...

But the thing is is that there is apparently some "magic phrases" that are used by Deans and PDs that are incorporated in the letter which MAY have some implication on your application...

HOWEVER, I have also heard that some places JUST hold off on giving interviews until the letter is in since it makes your application complete....

Input from others (especially PDs)?

I guess I can actually answer one of my own questions...I totally forgot about the summative comments part of each rotation, what your interactions were with everyone else on the team, how you functioned, your level of clinical knowledge...I guess schools don't have a way of assessing you subjectively until they get the dean's letter..

they also do get your class rank....but still...I mean...if you were in a school of bunch of geniuses, and you were in the bottom half, or you were in a school, where there werent that many brilliant pple and you scored in teh top 10%...are these two class ranks the same thing?! I don't think so..
